Yep, we’re going live, folks. This Saturday at 9:30 am, join me, David Newsom yapping live from Plant Material Nursery for an Instagram Live Stream event, “Habitat Gardens are Victory Gardens”.
Three Ponds in San Diego
.
Converting a pool to a pond is a deeply compassionate and committed thing to do. The impact of such a transformation is game-changing for thousands of terrestrial and aquatic species. Talk about walking the walk for habitat gardens and revitalization!
Winter Walk-Cherry Canyon/La Cañada

People like to beat up on California, but as far as I’m concerned, there is no place more stunning than this state. And don’t get me wrong, I love most of the US, but this vast, beleaguered, staggeringly bio-diverse state has my heart.
Stars find their light.
.
Mahonia repens (var)- about as handsome and surprising as a shade loving, acid tolerating drought tolerant native can get. Spreads by rhizome when happy, friend to native bees and resident birds..what more can I say?

California Blue-Eyed Grass. Full to part sun, hide and seek seasonal dainty little heart breaker. And fire resistant to boot.
360 plants down, 5 to go...
The revitalization project at Eagle Rock Presbyterian has been an eye-opener. My education in weeds alone is worth weeks of contemplation. But little by little it’s starting to emerge, and I’m excited about how this place is gonna look in a year.
BTW, if you live in Cali and you don’t know about this resource, https://t.co/aoA2EL4x8C is goldmine. Just enter your zip code and start learning about the native plants endemic to your region.
Got Shade? Catalina Currant is here to help. This little charmer (Ribes viburnifolium) is killing it back here in my tiny little shade garden beneath the jacaranda. The small burgundy blossoms are a big pollinator draw, and the leaves play host to up to 37 different species.
Tickets are on sale for our Winter Workshop: "Integrating Sustainable Practices into Your California Native Garden" David Newsom, Founder of @wild_yards, is the opening speaker and will present Not Gardens But Guardians – The Rise of the Enlightened Yard. https://t.co/LfMsvXBsaP
