It takes one bad study to create a scientific myth.
And decades of good science to try to kill it.
Let me tell you about two papers that changed the way millions of people think about science. 🧵1/
no. 1 on hacker news: stop using ai generated images (for your blog)
for companies: hire a freelance illustrator! if The Consensus can afford this, you can too!
for developers: well, please, just don't use ai images
@thesephist Color blindness is real, affects a large percentage of the world population and AFAIK there's no safe colour scheme which is safe for all the kinds of colour blindness. Hence the only safe option is black and white
After GPUs and memory, demand for CPUs is now way up. Some reports predict a demand growth of over 30% on a yearly basis.
Good for Intel, ARM...
For those of us who love computers, this means higher costs in the short term. As a gamer, I worry about the next PlayStation. Will it be horribly expensive?
However, this should drive more innovation and production all around. It looks like we are headed to a new state where compute will be far more abundant.
When I started programming in 1999, you just opened an editor and started writing code.
No dependencies to install, no environment conflicts, no readme with 47 steps before you could run hello world.
Somewhere between then and now, we added so much ceremony around coding that engineers now spend 70% of their productive time doing everything but coding. Setting up environments, waiting for builds, resolving conflicts, etc.
I talked about this on the standup podcast yesterday, but I'll reiterate here: if you're losing sleep because you need to keep feeding the agents STOP, I promise it's not worth it. You got caught in a [prompt -> reward] dopamine cycle and you're addicted to the feeling of the token slot machine. It's not your fault, but you need to escape before it grinds you into a pulp and you can't look at a computer for a month (this was me). If you can break out of it and spend some more time offline, or find other healthy sources of dopamine in hobbies/etc, you'll start to realize just how warped your perception was and that the thing you were chasing wasn't actually productive.
@chdb_io I can only imagine the glorious day when people like me whose customer's base is 100% Windows based (yes, even server side... Not that it matters given that chDB is supposed to run client side) will be able to leverage this ...
The time has come.

@2sush I am 40 and I don't think I "feel" internally any different from when I was 20. I watched videos of very old people who still feel the same as when they were young, except they look in the mirror and see an old person.
@steveruizok i cant tell you how much it bothers me that having superior hardware is a flex now. started off only being able to afford only very modest hardware so have always had a thing for writing code on under powered hardware which then runs well everywhere.
