A new article in JAMA Pediatrics, written by coauthors of the HHS Review on youth gender medicine, calls on the U.S. medical associations to align their guidelines with new evidence—while urging the CMS to allow grandfather clauses for youth who've undergone transition already./1
🚨A widely cited Trevor Project paper from 2 yrs ago concluded that state restrictions on youth gender transition increase youth suicide risk. But a new peer-reviewed reanalysis shows the signal came from a single state, Idaho—which had no such restrictions during the study. /1
"The temporary ascension of gender-affirming care over other approaches was achieved, not with data and reason, but with suppression and intimidation." @profjmb and @ZUCKERKJ, "Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment of Gender Dysphoria in Youth: Opportunities, Challenges, and Responsibilities" 👇

🧵In July 2024 I broke news that the BMA was planning to vote on a motion to "disavow" the Cass Review & work with others to oppose implementation of its recommendations. Nearly two years' later, the union has officially dropped its opposition, after conducting its own review.
I Detransitioned. My Body Will Never Be the Same.
Doctors told me I was transgender at 13. I’m 23 now, permanently altered, and fighting to make sure it never happens to another child.

I’m a gay man who testified last month against what has been called a lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender-rights bill. I was there because I believe the proposed law could silence the one kind of help that could have saved me from years of anguish and a future permanently marked by what was done to me as a child.
I grew up in a fundamentalist Christian town in rural Michigan with 2,500 people, one red light, and a pervasive drug problem. My parents split when I was a baby: My biological father was a deadbeat I’ve met only a handful of times; my mom worked constantly as the primary breadwinner for our family, building multiple small businesses in the car world.
From my earliest awareness, I knew I was not like other kids—and certainly not like other boys. I moved and spoke in ways others called “girly.” I loved dress‑up games, butterflies, and anything pink. I was obsessed with The Princess and the Frog and looked up to Disney princesses more than any male character. I also knew, from a very young age, that I liked boys. I didn’t have words for it then, and in the world I grew up in, it was considered sinful and shameful. But the feeling existed long before I had any name for it.

OK, it's time to reach out to normie pediatricians.
I will need help with this. I feel like most pediatricians over the age of 40, definitely those over the age of 50 remember life before the gender crazy took over.
I want to reach those people, let them know they're not crazy.
🎦 What are the antecedents of a new gender identity?
Psychiatrist Stephen Levine argues that there are usually multiple contributing factors, advancing his hypothesis that a new gender identity may be an unconscious, maladaptive response to despair, self-disappointment, or family distress. /1
Even liberal commentators now realize that the Southern Poverty Law Center is little more than a smear machine.
But it's more than that. It's a vital component in the left-wing policy network encompassing epistemic institutions, media, and parts of the Democratic Party. 🧵
The SPLC has made many questionable claims, but their designation of SEGM as a "hate group" was outrageous and indefensible. It should be understood by well-informed people as permanently undermining any claim to moral authority of the SPLC.

When gender medicine crashed out
Secret WPATH videos open a woke time capsule
My very presence here as an indigenous person contributes to and reinforces settler colonialism.” So declared Charlie Amáyá Scott, a presenter at a gathering a few years ago of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, or WPATH. Yet despite fears about reinforcing colonialism, Scott touted WPATH’s larger mission: the promotion of modern Western gender medicine to address the traditional “two-spirit” identities prevalent among some traditional Native American communities.
Scott’s presentation came from a batch of nearly 500 videos of conferences held by WPATH that I recently obtained. It’s a motherlode of material on pediatric gender care that the secretive activist medical organization had long fought to keep from the public. The tapes, subpoenaed by the Alabama attorney general in response to a federal lawsuit, covered a pivotal period from 2021 to 2023, when pediatric gender medicine first began to face political backlash. In addition to egregious lapses in judgment on the part of WPATH, the videos are a case study in the excesses of peak woke, neatly preserved, as if in a time capsule.
During a long winter of dyspepsia, I digested well more than 100 hours of the academic faithful checking their privilege and preaching about “centering lived experience.” And I can now report that there are few subcultures more slavishly faithful to the woke religion than WPATH was during the post-Racial Reckoning micro-era.

This seems like a good time to re-share our letter in response to @splcenter labeling Segm a “hate group”. The label has been used to shut down scientific inquiry, intimidate academics and clinicians, mislead the gender public, and foreclose thinking.
We are grateful to all those who have been able to see past Splc’s attacks and have continued to support SEGM’s mission to improve the quality of care for children, adolescents and young adults suffering from gender- related distress.

I recently got into an agonizing back-and-forth with Health Nerd @GidMK about the new Finnish study that suggested youths on gender-transition drugs worsen psychologically. He wasn't listening to a word I said, so I asked the study's senior author detailed questions about the paper, as well as a Swedish expert on the subject, and published their responses in this Q&A. I hope their words will help people better understand the nuances and complexities of this research.

A new study found a surge in psych care typically reserved for severe mental health problems following gender-transition interventions in youth—prompting sharp pushback from transgender advocates.
The Adolescent and Young Adult Gender Dysphoria Outcomes Study (AYAGDOS) is still open and seeking volunteers for a research study about youth with gender dysphoria. Both gender dysphoric youth (13-25 years of age) and parents of gender dysphoric youth of those ages are eligible. Participation requires completion of an Internet survey, is strictly voluntary, and will not be compensated. Investigators are J. Michael Bailey (Principal Investigator); Lisa Littman (Principal Investigator); and Kenneth J. Zucker (Co-Investigator). The Northwestern University IRB Study Number STU00215665 and the BRANY IRB Number is 22-076-1188.. The Medical Establishment Is Tearing Itself Apart Over Youth Gender Surgeries
The American Medical Association said it supported restricting gender surgeries for minors. Then it said it didn’t. We still don’t know where it stands, I report for @TheFP.
"Gender identity" is a foundational concept in gender medicine, but the leading authority in this field, @wpath, offers no useful definition of the term.
In this short video, I explain why WPATH's definition contains self-contradiction, circular reasoning, and stereotypes.
📰A new Finnish study reports that youth gender transitions (under age 23) did not improve mental health symptoms. For some youth, medical gender reassignment may have had a negative impact. Link ⬇️ /1
The Utah review is a goldmine for anyone looking to learn how not to conduct a systematic review. You can open it to any page and spot mistakes (I am not exaggerating).
