@votejasonfarr Of the many times I reached out, I received a response a grand total of TWICE, and the reply was a general statement that didn’t actually respond to any of my questions. I was discouraged, to say the least. So “I will always take your call” seems a little disingenuous
@votejasonfarr Just to be clear, sir, I have called and emailed your office more than a dozen times each over the past 3 years with concerns for neighbours who are houseless and/or living in encampments. I hoped that you, as my city councillor, would work to protect them & promote their welfare
We are demanding that the charges laid against our 6 friends and volunteers for defending encampment residents be dropped! HPS cannot intimidate us out of supporting our neighbours. We are calling on you to speak out! Tag us in your #DropTheCharges selfies #HamOnt ️🔥
Thank you, @JoeyColeman, for sharing the data @JWiwcharuk and I have been working on collecting over the past year.
Average age of death of Hamiltonians experiencing homelessness in the last 6 months: 36.
Something needs to change.

Expansion of entertainment venues and amenities that cater to affluent folks and don’t take into account the needs of people who already live in this neighbourhood?
Not In My BackYard!
When people say "homelessness is a complex issue", that does not mean we don't already know what to do about it, that there aren't already recommendations, years of research, models of intervention, existing underfunded programs, etc.
It generally is used to evade this.
I want so badly for a world where we treat unhoused people with dignity even if they use drugs, have mental illness, or make us uncomfortable.
Everyone deserves to have their basic needs met, regardless of their ability to function under capitalism.
I want it so badly.

At first, I thought that there was a major disaster happening in #HamOnt. On closer inspection, 3 tents needed to be removed from a park by @HamiltonPolice. @cityofhamilton is this a good use of resources? There had to be around 25 Police, numerous Sgts and a Supt. Why?
Massive police presence at an encampment eviction at JC Beemer Park. This resident is currently being forcibly displaced their home though they wish to stay. Hamiltonians - if you can, please come bear witness to this injustice. Food, blankets, and other material aid are welcomed
This is fucked up. The City is disappearing people with no real plan of support, no real supports, no housing, no winter plan, and negative 0 temperatures soon upon us. Enforcement on site are saying they receive "marching orders" every morning about encampments to clear. [4/x]
"Taking away tents is not going to reduce or eliminate homelessness," said legal clinic lawyer Sharon Crowe previously told court. "The only thing it will achieve is to make an already vulnerable group even more vulnerable."
Yesterday, the City announced that it would be returning to "pre-pandemic enforcement of camping bylaws" in #HamOnt, which will prohibit encampments on all City property, including public parks, starting August 30. This is not a solution to the ongoing housing crisis in our city.
😔 In Hamilton, again. In case those in power just aren’t getting the message, let me say it again – what you’re (not) doing isn’t working. Where’s the action plan, folks? Leadership is more than words and thoughts. Be moved to act, please. #HamOnt
An update on the call we made a month ago for donations to support grocery, hygiene, and PPE deliveries to #HamOnt apartment buildings with COVID outbreaks:
We'd also like to send a lot of love to the tenant committees at both buildings who made communication with tenants and food distribution possible, tenants who carried groceries up many flights of stairs, donors who provided PPE, and translators.
