"We need to strengthen solidarity and create space for honest, robust conversations on how to protect ourselves. Instead of taking our challenges elsewhere, we must organize collectively and prioritize good digital hygiene," @williamjanak, Head of Programs, @KCA_KENYA. #MediaWomenConfKE @FNF_Kenya@KUJ_Kenya@InternewsKE
It has been a week of intense sessions discussing digital issues and appropriate interventions in the media sector to make the digital spaces safe... Thanks to TrustLab, an initiative of Code for Africa, Siasa Place and DWA.
It was enriching to sit with media trainers to discuss and evaluate the SAFIR Project focusing on investigative journalism training being implemented by Kenya Correspondents Association with support from the EU Union. Very engaging reflections.
I had exciting discussions and experience sharing with a team of editors from Ethiopia on a study tour in Nairobi. The team leads efforts in Ethiopia to strengthen media and journalists organizations and were in Kenya to compare notes with their Kenyan counterparts.
It was great joining partners and different stakeholders at the 3rd Media -CSO conference in Nairobi which brought together more than 150 participants to discuss the role of the media and CSOs in safeguarding democracy and protecting the civic space in Kenya. Great collaboration.
Janaak Oloo, Director of Programs @KCA_KENYA: Kenya’s democracy faces growing pressure, yet media and civil society remain resilient.
Collaboration, innovation, and staff wellbeing are being championed as key pillars to protect civic space and strengthen accountability.
It’s essential to support media and CSOs in defending democratic values, even amid intimidation, misinformation, and other challenges.
We must continue fostering partnerships, promoting innovation, and safeguarding the wellness of those on the frontlines.
