@MrHelsbyMaths Agree with the comments above. All the algebraic manipulation is crucial, I think trigonometry is also a really important one that doesnβt seem to have been mentioned yet which is also needed for some of the mechanics! #mathscpdchat
@MrHelsbyMaths Retrieval practice of core skills is key this time of year before students attempt problem solving questions ... so I always do extended retrieval practice starters a few times a week... Iβll repeat the same starter every other week but.... 1/2
@MrHelsbyMaths 2/2 but make slight changes to the questions. Very simple but effective retrieval practice. Students actually look forward to it as they like to see the improvements.. usually starting with not being able to do lots but after a few weeks they see their own progress
@rach_fb I have a Halloween treasure hunt which students enjoy every year. Due to current times, Iβll be using it as a βfollow meβ activity this year instead. Happy to share - DM me your email address if youβd like me to send it over. #halloween#maths#mathschat#edutwitter
@mathsjem @MrReddyMaths I used to always teach the (n-2) triangles method but changed to exterior angles a few years ago! Havenβt come across any flaws with it yet, or seen any problems with students where they canβt solve it using exterior angles. Look forward to hearing how you get on!

Retrieval practice in the form of βformula Fridayβ Encouraging a mental effort from students to recall the key formulae needed for the @PearsonEdexcel #GCSE#maths@MathsGCSEHelp#revisemaths using as a quick to get going verbal starter atm whilst moving all around the school
2/2 ... and a few other ideas. These take less than a minute to write on the board or verbally explain to students. Saves you waiting for a Ppt/computer to load up a starter. Any other ideas people have been using? #edutwitter#teachinginapandemic#maths#MathsTalk#teaching
1/2 Quick to get going starters are so important at the moment whilst teachers are moving all around the school - Ensuring students are on task straight away, buying the teacher time to get set up & prepared for the lesson. Here are some Iβve been using #edutwitter#MathsTalk
@MrWilliamsMaths Iβm sure the deadline for your video has passed now, but just in case any others come across this post check out the video our department produced for some ideas: https://t.co/huicaBgVzY #openevening#mathschat#openevemaths#maths
@mathsmrgordon 2/2 We have a wall display with a road map of all the extra curricular events we offer the students throughout the year. DM if youβd like me to photograph the display and send it across to you. #mathsdisplay#ExtraCurricular#mathschat
