@GDebatta Don’t forget Senator Byrd in the late 2000s. Died in office in 2010 at the age of 92, in Congress since 1953. Was in and out of the hospital from 2008-2010. And according to the New Yorker, was known to be non compos mentis (of unsound mind) during that time.

@jjbarron @i_love22076 @willeatmyself Unfortunately, it’s federal law now. In 2021, patients fought to be able to have immediate access to test results without a provider’s review. Now this is the consequence.

@paykhloe @willeatmyself The CARES act of 2021 mandates that patients get their test results immediately, even without a physician’s review. So, the law says that it goes to the portal before the doc has even seen the result.

@gomni1807 @willeatmyself Not the hospital’s fault. Since 2021, test results must be reported immediately upon completion, without input from the provider. Meaning you get your results the same time the provider does. And since providers see dozens of patients a day, they probably haven’t seen it yet.

@ghostedpixie @Nicole__Meiner @willeatmyself Yeah, that’s not gonna hold in court. The bar for proving likelihood of emotional or physical harm is very very high. The CARES act requires providers to err on the side of releasing results.

@CatLvr5303 @willeatmyself The provider probably hadn’t seen it yet. Results populate to the portal within minutes of coming in. And unless the doctor happened to be looking at their chart at that moment, it likely went to their inbox.

@i_love22076 @willeatmyself MyChart sends that message automatically when a test result comes in. Her doctor probably hadn’t even seen the result yet when she got that text. Doctors and patients get access to results at the same time. And the doctor isn’t sitting around waiting for your test result.

@Scabby_McSnatch @willeatmyself In most systems that use Epic, because HIPAA requires a patient to be able to access the entirety of their medical record, results are released to the patient the moment they are resulted. Meaning when you see it in the portal, the doctor may not have even seen the result yet.
