As I head to bed, I invite my valued followers to reflect on the fact that events today in Dumcree have set back the cause of Irish reunification by approximately 50 years. Congratulations, @sinnfeinireland. 🇬🇧💙
Is this the end of peace. Can't see the assembly working together. Sf found a way to dissolve it again. This shows the world that Mary Lou's statement about an united Ireland being near is untrue. Certain people wanted this. A first minister for all blocking a road. Disgraceful
The First Minister of Northern Ireland, Sinn Fein's Michelle O'Neill, has joined an illegal protest blocking a march that is allowed by law. The lawful management of parades was a key article of the peace process and for Sinn Fein to be joining illegal street action is a terrible step backwards. https://t.co/PKbmFPMrP4
What should have been 35 Orangemen walking in silence has been turned into a national disgrace by politicians scoring points in Northern Ireland.
I cannot understand a First Minister standing with a protest that blocks a legally approved parade.
We need peace and unity, not more division.
Breaking: Orangemen had began to walk the Drumcree Road, they stopped half way down the hill and returned .
Heavy police presence both here and on Garvaghy Road @BelTel
There is currently 35 British Protestants waiting to home from church. There route is currently being blocked by a couple of hundred Republicans hellbent on eroding these men’s basic human rights. They are being led by the First Minister of Northern Ireland.
Update: Police in high vis made an approach to protesters here on the Garvaghy Road.
They were looking to speak to anyone in the crowd with influence.
Paul Maskey told them that no one wanted to engage.
Officers have now retreated behind a TSG unit @BelTel
I believe in a united Ireland. But it will never happen in my lifetime. An Ireland that can't tolerate 35 lads in hats walking in silence down a road at 8am - in accordance with a lawful court order - cannot be united.
Popular hysteria can get stuffed. It gave us lockdowns.
@JasonReidx Your tweets have been coming up on my feed all day and every time I read one it just confirms you don’t have a clue about any of it at all.
Convicted IRA terrorist who served a jail term for bombing the town he lives in wagging his finger at the police for not letting him do more illegal activities in the same town
If 35 people can’t walk down any road they want on the island at 8.00am on any given Sunday morning, no matter what the history, how seriously can those objecting expect ever to have all of the population of this island under one rule… utterly delusional, and sad on all sides
