In my online course Self-Edit Like a Pro, I ask you to make a list of Side Quests that include activities that writers often label 'procrastination' or 'wasting time' to deal with waiting between drafts.

When self-doubt kicks in, talking about your #selfediting struggles can be a great way of overcoming them. The free Under the Willow community is a private, safe space for #writers of all levels to find support and encouragement.
If you're looking for a great first step to break a spiral of editing self-doubt, I highly recommend picking up one of @SarahCAndersen's comics or checking out the web version.

I've heard many a #writer express the fear of 'getting it wrong' because editing doesn't come naturally to them. #Selfediting is something you can learn, even if you feel you don't have a knack for it right from the start.
Resist the urge to compare yourself to others. For some people, #editing every day is the key. For others, setting aside an entire day to #write every now and again does the trick. What matters is what works for you and your #story.
When self-editing, it's important to stay true to yourself and your story. Write what you want to write, not what you think others would like you to write. Write what works for the story.
I believe the principle of finding your ikigai also apply to self-editing. In order to develop an editing routine that works for you and that brings pleasure and satisfaction, it's important to learn how to take care of yourself and how to listen to yourself.
Work from big to small, and know exactly what you're looking for when you do a read-through. That way, each step along the way will be different. #selfediting#editingtips#editingadvice

During the self-editing process, it can be easy to develop a tunnel vision. This doesn't leave room for enjoyment or fun, because the finish line can seem miles away and getting there can become like a chore. Remember that it may not feel like it, but you're achieving a lot!
Reform Your Inner Mean Girl' by Amy Ahlers and Christine Arylo (Dutch version on the image).
You may sometimes feel that you're not good enough or that you're not going fast enough. When that happens, that's your inner mean girl talking. #reformyourinnermeangirl
If you only take into consideration the end goal of getting published, you can rest assured that the writing and editing process will be a draining, unfulfilling one. Instead, make sure to have something to look forward to each step along the way.
