People whose primary vibe is "I and my tribe are domain-expertise-endowed professionals, the people I criticize and mock are amateurs, and you should shut up" are really really uncool, and people should recognize the pattern and immediately unfollow anyone who exhibits it.
Does this make happiness the ultimate good? No.
But the argument here is that people make a big mistake when they discount happiness because it isn't the ultimate good.
A good definition of happiness is very eudaimonic as well.
The primary philosophical objections to happiness come down to bad definitions. Once you fix the definition, the "excellence only" people join too:

@nateliason Great piece. Sometimes I think what's at fault is equating "being entertained" with true wholehearted engagement (a word unfortunately snapped up by big data). True flow & engagement blows "not being bored" out of the water, but people have forgotten the distinction.
@RoninMM8 @nateliason The writer of this passage is optimistic about the literature getting better despite him destroying it here. But yes, agreed—lots of problems.
