@thegentleauthor@wilmotst I lived in Ainsley Street from 1949 to 1962/3. Hague Street School was where I went between c1956 and 1962. In the photo of children in a conga line in the school playground, one of them looks very much like me, but I've no memory of such a photo being taken.

Ray Herrington lived with his family on the Waterlow Estate in Bethnal Green for the first 17 years of his life (from 1939 to 1956). His grandmother was also the landlady of The Lamb pub. #eastend#history#localhistory

The first major housing development by the L.C.C. was the Boundary Estate in Bethnal Green.
The red brick tenement blocks replaced the overcrowded Old Nichol slums which were demolished in 1891.
