I loved High on the Hog on Netflix. Thought it'd be a show about food (soul food) but it used food to trace forgotten histories of African Americans from the slave trade in Benin to mac n cheese to the first caterers. Beautiful, sensitive, and informative. 4 part and must watch

@annaverbee Yeah he was quite something wasn't he. Really turned that genre on its head; there was that irreverence and swagger and incisive commentary. His books are also lovely.

High on... is quite something. A gentle inquiring host and super interesting & poignant stories.

@OmairTAhmad No it didn't come across that way to me. I read it as one writer describing how the pandemic and the current (latest?) dumpster fire has affected the writing process. Maybe a piece that'll resonate more with creators/creative types

@OmairTAhmad Lovely piece. I think all writers basically love people watching. You can sit at an airport or a cafe or be in any place there's foot traffic and it's amazing how much you can get just from brief glimpses. Sometimes beautiful other times heartbreaking; always interesting.
