@MegEBrock Ppl built lasting bonds through alcohol. It's not necessary to do so but that's why ppl are mad. It's like invalidating their relationships they've build through social drinking.
@rpondiscio Teachers should only be private tutors. They get paid directly and students can change teachers whenever they want. If a teacher is bad at teaching a student can get a new teacher. Bad teaching makes less money. Good teaching makes more money.
@AaronLepeska@upRootNutrition You want to see what my argument is and I am saying I don't have anything that isn't my own subjective opinion of what an appropriate age would be. I don't accept relationships preferences based on your examples and I wouldn't want a legal system to. I'll settle for the current.
@AaronLepeska@upRootNutrition I posted that to say it's subjective and that's my only argument. I changed my mind and think the age of consent should remain as it is. Raising it prob would increase the likelihood someone who is older than 18 and is determined to have sex with them would do it without consent.
@upRootNutrition Actually I changed my mind. I would neither raise or lower it. Raising it would prob increase the likelihood a determined individual would try to have sex with an 18 year old in non-consenting ways.
@AaronLepeska@upRootNutrition Well why would 18 be an acceptable lower bound as opposed to 16? It's subjective and I believe 18 is too young. I picked 21 since it's the drinking age. I would prefer it be 25 but that's too long. 21 is when people are being independent and living on their own.
@jeffreytucker Imposing high standard is good but not enough. Some ideas...we should make it illegal for teachers to grade their own assignments. Another human or software can do it. This is where AI for education can really shine. Also, standardized tests should only be short or long answer.
@ryanssking1@aziz0nomics Yea that is pretty inefficient right now. I'm pretty sure there will be a way to address these. I am pro AI with reservations about how they compensate artists for gen art...but that's been an issue with music sampling for awhile already.
@JustinLilly1@mbateman You switched her after a year right? Wouldn't you have preferred to switch her sooner. As a systemic issue we would probably be better off switching teachers within a month at most
@JeromeAdamsMD And they can buy time to allow society to figure out how exactly something spreads. We need to be more honest about the utility of lockdowns.
@JeromeAdamsMD Lockdowns technically work. The issue is you need 100% compliance. Since you can't guarantee 100% compliance across billions of ppl they practically don't work...atleast to eliminate a contagion. They do work to mitigate spread and allow healthcare systems to keep up with demand.
