Excited to use the Argument Talk Protocol to bring more excitement and substance to argumentative/persuasive writing. Such a great way to get the facts and reflect on both sides of an argument. Anxious to try it with my 3rd graders! #MULit19 @aileenhower @stacy5thgrade
Encouragement may be the one thing that keeps some of our reluctant writers writing. We need to model and explicitly teach students how to respond effectively and helpfully to their peers. #MULit19 @aileenhower @RealBrianKelley
I want to help my students learn to play and experiment more with words the same way they would with a piece of clay, molding and shaping and reshaping it in new and interesting ways and being ok with making a mess. #MULit19 @aileenhower @TeachWriteEDU #teachwrite @writeguyjeff
Feeling inspired by Lynne Dorfman and Stacey Shubitz @sshubitz Excited about using more picture books as mentor texts to inspire my 3rd graders and grow their motivation and appreciation for writing through reading and emulating what great authors do! @aileenhower #MULit19
Shout out to our amazing colleague @deannaclayton for reminding us about the power of words and expression through poetry. Creating “found poetry” today made me think of many ways I can use this to enhance my instruction and get students to dive deeper into text. #MULit19
Wow! @frankmurphy2009 What an inspiration. You are the kind of teacher I dream of being. I could imagine being a student in your classroom, and know that it would be a place I’d never want to leave. So many amazing ideas for character building through writing. #MULit19
Yes! Thank you Michelle Trasborg @cvsdliteracy for reminding us what writing assignments can feel like from the students’ perspective and giving us ideas for inspiring and motivating them and explicitly teaching them how to revise through the use of mentor texts! Very powerful!
"Writing is hard work!" Thank you for affirming this for us today, @cvsdliteracy! I can't wait to try your revision strategies with my students this year and have my brain sweat with them! @aileenhower #MULit19
"It's not about what is wrong. It's about what is right." A powerful way to think about grammar instruction! I can't wait to model the Patterns of Power method in classrooms this school year! @whitney_larocca @writeguyjeff @aileenhower #MULit19
Thank you Jeff Anderson and Whitney La Rocca for providing us with a process and the tools to teach grammar and conventions in a meaningful, positive way. I’m excited to see what a game-changer this will be. #MULit19 @aileenhower @whitney_larocca @writeguyjeff
Excited to use MENTOR sentences after hearing from @reckj . What a fabulous way to model quality writing, share literature, teach grammar, and expand sentences into writing pieces. #MULit18 @aileenhower
I loved this too! Wish I had more teachers like Jared Reck when I was younger. So excited to do this with my 3rd graders this year! https://t.co/r0EfqEQ7IN
Planning to adopt the My Turn, Your Turn idea to teach and practice speaking and listening. I plan to apply it to my conferencing with students as well. I need to do more listening and less talking. #MULit18 @aileenhower Thanks @triciaebarvia for intorducing this to us.
@triciaebarvia really made me reflect on the beliefs I hold as a teacher, and how those beliefs influence what I teach, how I teach it, and how my students feel about themselves as learners. #MULit18

More awesome ideas again today from @MPryle and @aileenhower
Learned some great strategies to guide students through the brainstorming process. Going through it myself really helped me to grasp the struggle students often face. Same could be said for conferencing. #MULit18
