ETH Zurich taught a four-legged robot to solve a giant Rubik's Cube with nothing but its feet.

ANYmal walks around the cube, flips it to scan every face, works out the solve, then pins it with one foot and twists with the other. About 30 moves, 8 to 9 minutes, fully autonomous. It learned the moves in simulation and kept going on cobblestones, moss, and with researchers shoving the cube away with a stick.

Funny demo, serious point: robots that don't need custom hands for every job are robots that get cheap. Today it's a puzzle. Next it's valves, latches and doors in places humans shouldn't have to go.

Also, it solved it faster than most people I know can with two hands and a YouTube tutorial.

Engineers at ETH Zurich in Switzerland have taught a quadruped robot to solve a giant Rubik’s Cube.

According to the researchers, the robot maintained its balance on three legs while using its fourth leg to turn the faces of the puzzle, which weighs around 4.6 kg.

The robot dog succeeded on its third attempt.
