@bootmanmstz don't participate in the system for weeks on end is your advice for using the awful acquisition system? doesn't that prove on its face how bad it is?
@tthomas48 This has been my experience maintaining those sorts of landscapes. It's worse than grass if you put rocks on top of weed barrier. It kills the soil below and allows weeds to grow on top of or through the barrier. It's a nightmare what so many companies are doing around Austin.
@tthomas48 This is the good kind of xeriscaping I love to see around town! The kind where they throw weed barrier, rocks, and soon to freeze succulents everywhere has got to stop.
@BoneJail No, the problem is the limitations such a system presents when those in power shrug and offer condolences as the empire collapses. To be clear I like Austin's local government systems way better than most major cities.
@BoneJail Maybe I'm just Negative Nancy, but seeing those questions worded like that on the ballot, so obviously meant to deceive, the voter, did not fill me with hope for our chances of voting in a better future.
@BoneJail Surely they have used this trick successfully before? and will again?
The outcome is good. I am not convinced this good outcome is much of an affirmation that the system isn't corrupt and broken.
@BoneJail yes, the fact that they can use the ballot prop system to so easily undermine what voters want proves it sucks
this one went the right way because turnout was very low, but there's a million nasty things they can and do use ballot props for
@BoneJail right, I'm glad it went the way it did, and I hope it matters somehow, but how it was presented emphasizes what an absolute scam it is to vote in this country
@BoneJail because it was two almost identically worded questions, one put on the ballot by the cops meant to trick unaware voters who already voted for more police oversite
not that cops give a shit how much we vote when shooting people from bridges
this is American democracy
