Kalshi's New York loss rippled through prediction market litigation this week, while North Carolina adopted a new tax and industry trading volume topped $50B in June.
Here's @G_Insider's latest prediction markets weekly roundup:

No one - not a single person - created an Instagram account with the expectation that their photos would be used to generate AI advertisements.
If users had to proactively opt in to this, no one would. Instead, Meta doesn’t even notify you it’s happening.
I genuinely don't understand what they think they're doing here.
The GOP President is an adjudicated rapist.
Graham Platner just was pushed out of the race and condemned by the entire Democratic Party.
I'm gathering the MAGA strategy is just to gaslight everyone to oblivion.
AWFUL. The video is crystal clear. They smash the guy's head directly into a stone wall and then freakout at the person filming them, probably because they knew what they'd just done.
This is unacceptable behavior from federal agents.
Lorenzo Salgado Araujo called Houston home for 35 years. On Tuesday, an ICE agent shot and killed him. His family learned of his death from a video before anyone bothered to knock on their door.
New York City stands with the Salgado family in demanding a full, independent investigation and real accountability. To the Salgado family and any immigrant family in this city living in fear: we grieve with you and we will continue to stand beside you in the pursuit of justice.
Abolish ICE.
To be clear: ICE shot and killed a man who was not their target. He had no criminal record, was seeking legal status, & was pushed off the road by unmarked cars.
There’s “no body cam footage”, his family can’t recover his body, and the witnesses in his van have been detained.
Madison Square Garden Kept a List of Gay Celebrities
An MSG database tracked hundreds of celebs, Knicks superfans, and even some of Taylor Swift’s wedding guests. Labels included “LGBTQIA,” “DO NOT HOST,” and low to high “risk.”

Everyone's handicapping the CFTC vs. states showdown at SCOTUS. The part getting less attention: Curtis-Schiff would amend the CEA to reclassify sports event contracts as gambling — meaning even a CFTC win could be legislated away. Congress is the wildcard. Talked to @CasinoBeatsCom about it: https://t.co/vXgDxQA7Xg
New: For the last two decades, websites did whatever they could to rank as highly in Google Search as possible.
Now, a growing number of media companies are considering the once unthinkable opposite: opting out of Google Search entirely.

Mexico says it will pursue legal action against the U.S. following Tuesday's deadly shooting involving an ICE agent in Houston.
"Unfortunately, there has been another death of a Mexican national in the United States for being detained, when that person's only offense was lacking immigration documents, even though they had been hired by an American company," President Claudia Sheinbaum told reporters Wednesday. https://t.co/njV5B7VUzA
After US Ambassador to the UN Mike Walz accused Cuba of repressing and imprisoning political dissidents, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla fired back.
Presenting a photograph of Renee Nicole Good to the UN General Assembly, he states bluntly to Waltz, "This woman cannot be released from jail – because she was murdered by ICE."
Showing image after image of ICE raids and repression of protestors, Rodríguez Parrilla says simply, "This isn't Cuba. This is in the US."
Heather Cox Richardson on democratic socialism: "People like Zohran Mamdani and some of the other people who describe themselves as democratic socialists are literally to the right of the Republicans in 1956, who supported an upper tax bracket of 92%, who wanted to expand social security."
There is a powerful movement of working class people in the state of Maine, and millions more across America who are ready to send a progressive fighter to the Senate. I’ve been fighting for that movement my whole life — and I’m sure as hell not backing down now, when this fight is needed most.
I’m in. And we're going to defeat Susan Collins. Maine deserves a Senator that will fight for working families.
ICE claimed that Lorenzo Salgado Araujo drove his van into one of their SUVs and later attempted to run an ICE agent over. The first thing our local media pointed out was the lack of damage on Araujo’s van. One of the best investigative journalists in Houston, Jeremy Rogalski, found surveillance camera footage showing ICE ramming the van minutes before shots were fired.
The ICE story is already falling apart.

Mohammad Paktiawal died in ICE custody. He fought with our troops in Afghanistan. He was not here illegally or a criminal. He worked & had a family. There was no reason for his detention. This ongoing inhumanity is a national shame. Powerful @BillKristol:
