i've been catching up a lot of friends from our old crypto circles. "ideological devs building software for a better future" types

there's this thing, never substantial enough to confront in the moment, but in aggregate it deserves mention to the kinds of ppl that still read what i have to say

i fear the crypto religiosity we've felt,
the crypto religiosity i've espoused myself,
it replicates itself within us without addressing the problems that led us here in the first place.

we're going to save the world from:
- inefficiency
- bad incentives
- bad actors
- closed source software
- poverty
- climate change

each one, a hyperstructure so abstract that any action can be framed as progress towards any of them.

back then, the belief was crypto would to do this,
now the belief is ai will do this.

maybe your disillusionment in crypto was:

and maybe you slapped one the same bandages i did. perhaps zk, fhe, zktls, privacy pools, or aa could make it all worth it

i reached my breaking point in 2024, i looked elsewhere for answers. a lot of friends i'm catching up w did not. as a result the same dizzying techno-capital-optimistic haze hangs over so many of us

maybe it's ai+crypto, or ai-not-crypto, or foss ai, or decentralized ai

but what is it for?

we can vaguely gesture at problems we know nothing about, assuming that bc ai makes our text-based jobs easy, it can solve every problem in totality from argiculture to aerospace, from geopolitics to economics.

but dig just past the dunning-kruger threshold and we'll find that our abilities in software are not universal abilities, that trivializing our domain does not mean trivializing all domains

very hard problems are still very hard problems

and if we really want to make a difference today, if we really want our children to have a better life than us, then we have to dig deeper.

and we have to recognize that no amount of ai will give any one person, or even small clique, power over the unimaginably complex and powerful systems out there today

it's going to take a lot of us
it's going to take trusting strangers
it's going to take unimaginable amounts of work

and most of all

it's going to take us closing the fucking laptop, getting our hands dirty, loving our neighbors deeply, and engaging in the very real world in which we live today, not future sold to us by those who ties their net worth to the buy in of that future

We just freed 340 inactive unbonding pool members in destroying nomination pools through permissionless withdraw. These accounts are now free to join another pool.

Destroying pools do not earn rewards. Move to a Polkadot Cloud pool (Pool 15 and 19) for consistent, reliable staking rewards.

Unbonding and withdrawing pool members is permissionless for destroying pools. Polkadot Cloud runs both periodically for network cleanup and improved pool UX as part of its service layer.
