It’s influencers who are causing a lot of damage to the music industry. An artist can release a great song, but getting engagement becomes difficult simply because they are not your favourite artist or they are not on your payroll. Instead of supporting good music, some people choose to talk down on projects out of pure hatred. Before social media, 30BG fans listened to and enjoyed Wizkid's songs, and FC fans listened to and enjoyed Davido's songs. People appreciated good music regardless of their favourite artist. Today, both camps are busy telling their followers not to stream, play, or support songs from the other side, all because of competition. Music should unite people, not divide them. Unfortunately, fan wars and influencer agendas are slowly taking the focus away from the music itself.
