🚨Jamie Carragher on Ryan Gravenberch's red card for the challenge on Jérémy Doku:
“Honestly, I'm watching that decision and asking myself what exactly the referee has seen. How have we reached the point where a player can be sent off for an incident like that?
From the angle I've seen, there doesn't appear to be any contact on Doku. So where has this red card come from?
I'm not saying referees have an easy job. I played football for years, and I understand how difficult it can be to make decisions in real time. But that's precisely why we have VAR. It's there to correct obvious mistakes, not to make people even more confused about what they're watching.
At this point, it feels like they're not even hiding it anymore. How can you look at that incident and send Gravenberch off when there's no contact on Doku?
And when you're Liverpool, these decisions become even more frustrating because of what's at stake. Every point matters. Every player matters. One questionable decision can change the entire game, and suddenly you're expected to accept it and move on as if nothing happened.
I'm questioning the consistency. That's the biggest problem. Supporters want to understand the rules, players want to know where they stand, and managers want to believe that decisions will be made fairly.
Liverpool shouldn't have to spend the next few days talking about referees instead of football. We should be discussing the players, the tactics and the match itself.
The Premier League sells itself as the best league in the world. Yet decisions like this leave everyone talking about the referee instead of the football.
That's a serious problem, and somebody needs to explain it.
