The isolation of Ethiopia from the Red Sea was no mere twist of historical fate. It was a calculated, cold-blooded orchestration by coordinated external and internal forces that effectively stripped the nation of its geographic destiny.
At the very heart of this geopolitical tragedy stood the massive oil refinery at the Port of Assab, a towering industrial monument designed to anchor Ethiopia’s economic sovereignty and guarantee its energy independence.

Today, we officially inaugurated the King Tekle Haymanot Airport, which the people of Debre Markos and the surrounding communities had eagerly awaited for many years. The airport, which had been out of service for nearly 30 years, has now been modernized, upgraded to a higher standard, and rebuilt.
Constructed with a 2,400-meter-long and 30-meter-wide runway, the airport now has the capacity to accommodate large passenger and cargo aircraft such as the Q400 and B737. The commencement of operations at this airport will significantly stimulate trade, investment, and tourism in the area, opening a new chapter for the economic growth of the area and our country as a whole.
By turning challenges into opportunities, we will continue to demonstrate our commitment through action—responding step by step to our people’s development needs and completing the mega projects we have launched with both quality and speed so they can be delivered for public use.

"Significant improvements are being made through efforts to ensure quality in the education sector. In recent years, a system has been implemented in which students take examinations based on their own abilities, helping to eliminate a culture of cheating. If education is not strengthened from the foundation, progress at higher levels will not be effective. With a focus on expanding early childhood education, 35,000 kindergartens have been built. Efforts being made to ensure education quality, eliminate cheating, and expand access to education through technology are showing promising results. In addition, the construction of well-equipped and modern primary and secondary schools is underway."

The #GreenLegacyInitiative beyond its foundational role in climate action, is now delivering real gains in Ethiopia's honey production. By protecting our natural environment, forests are expanding, and with them, the habitat and food sources that sustain bee populations and boost honey harvests.

FM. Dr. Gedion Timothewos, officially opened the day’s trading at the @LSEplc at the launch of London Climate Action Week.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that the high temperatures recorded this week are a clear sign of the urgent need for global #climateaction.

At a London Climate Action Week discussion, “Making the Case for COP in a Fractured Geopolitical Environment,” organized by Chatham House, the COP30 President joined Gedion Timothewos, Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and COP32 President-Designate, and Türkiye’s Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, representing COP31.
Gedion highlighted Ethiopia’s strong track record on climate action, emphasizing the policy interventions implemented over the past eight years. He noted that COP32’s priorities will include ensuring continuity by building on the leadership and outcomes of COP31, which will be co-hosted by Türkiye and Australia.
He underscored that this approach reflects the overarching principle of Medemer, working collaboratively with those who came before us, to strengthen collective action and help reignite hope in the multilateral process.
