Dear Vice President Vance
I do appreciate your interest in the Christian faith.
You are right that the Bible has a lot to say about love.

The New Testament teaches that we are called to love God, love our families, and love our communities, but it also teaches that we are to love the stranger, the poor, the hungry, and even our enemies.

The Bible does not teach a prioritisation such that we should love our own and only if we have some leftovers are we to use that to help others as you propose in this clip.

In fact, it teaches the opposite.
- The Bible says that if you don't love the stranger, you are not a believer at all ( Matthew 25).
- The Bible argues that the two greatest commandments are to love God and to love your neighbour ( Matthew 22:34–40 )
- But it teaches that a neighbour is anyone that is in need - see the parable of the Good Samaritan ( Luke 17).

Would love to talk theology, compassion and justice any time you are free.

Donald Trump's response to Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde's National Prayer Service is interesting:

The so-called Bishop who spoke at the National Prayer Service on Tuesday morning was a Radical Left hard line Trump hater. She brought her church into the World of politics in a very ungracious way. She was nasty in tone, and not compelling or smart. She failed to mention the large number of illegal migrants that came into our Country and killed people. Many were deposited from jails and mental institutions. It is a giant crime wave that is taking place in the USA. Apart from her inappropriate statements, the service was a very boring and uninspiring one. She is not very good at her job! She and her church owe the public an apology!

Bishop Budde called for a compassionate and merciful approach to immigrants:

“The people, the people who pick our crops and clean our office buildings, who labor in poultry farms and meatpacking plants, who wash the dishes after we eat in restaurants, and work the night shifts in hospitals,” she said. “They may not be citizens or have the proper documentation. But the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals. They pay taxes and are good neighbors. They are faithful members of our churches and mosques, synagogues and temples.”

Donald Trump has courted the church, and even claimed that God saved him to Make America Great Again. The church does not belong to any political party. The church has a role to speak truth.

You don't even have to agree with Bishop Budde to be worried about Donald Trump's response.

It seems Donald Trump wants the church in politics if it will support him and out of politics when it doesn't. He wants a church that is a puppet and not a prophet.

@DisabilityJ Really conflicted. I believe that life is to be treasured. However, not at all costs. We have witnessed awful deaths in hideous pain. But, I do fear that as a disabled person there are those who say ‘I’d rather die than be in a chair’ to my face might be given the power to kill.
