Working on the relationship between addition and subtraction using the part-part-whole model!! Our first day working with fact families and I’m proud of their ability to know exactly where they are in their learning 🖤
Publishing party for my world changers!!! This year my firsties went “All Around the World” and research 20 different countries! Today we celebrated with family and friends by unwrapping our books, presenting our research, and eating cultural foods! ❤️ @studentreasures
Our very first 3-Act Task in first grade! The kiddos loved it and I loved seeing how their brains organized the information!! Super proud of the 3 rockstars who stood in front of the class and shared their thinking 💜🩵🩷
Progression of our very first math lesson in first grade! WOW 🥳 These kiddos decomposed a word problem finding unneeded information and met the success criteria! They had to show their work with manipulatives, label their work, then write an equation! Some even wrote sentences!
We are drawing picture stories and meeting our success criteria! Then we are allowing our friends in class to make up a story that matches with our work 🤯
When you find 4 baby bunnies on the playground, you rescue them! Then you turn all those exciting emotions into a shared writing prompt for the most precious first graders!
Our first day our new reading series Open Court! These kiddos are already showing what wonderful readers and writers they are. Today, we wrote about our self portraits and found the rhyme scheme! We even learned what the word sway means and watched the trees sway in the storm!
Today we celebrated becoming published authors! There was even a time for our special guests to meet the authors! I’m so proud of these kiddos for their hard work and bravery when presenting their research!! World changers they are 🩵📝🥳
Word problem presentations in first grade!! We are working hard to talk and explain what’s happening in our brains as we solve problems 💗The leadership and boldness this brings out in kiddos is amazing ❤️ World Changers, no doubt!
HAPPY WORLD READ ALOUD DAY! We enjoyed getting to hear from author Lucille Colandro this morning! Thank you for the reminder that in order to be good writers, we need to be good readers! Great advice as we work towards being publishers ourselves in a few weeks ❤️📚
@woods_class Wow, so much great thinking - it went off the edge of the screen! And "Four threes is twelve" - wow! Unitizing! Grouping! Thank you for sharing
Something clicked today 🤯🤯 Those math brains were thinking extra hard! It was our first day getting deep into a picture talk after we have been doing @BerkeleyEverett’s 5 weeks of number sense slides! So many notices and so many wonders 💜
I used to think the volume of the classroom dictated the quality of the teacher. I now know learning can be loud and can be messy. Loud classrooms aren’t necessarily managed poorly and quiet ones don’t always indicate learning is happening.
