Thought this was satire at first.
"All wild animals have to be culled. Because if they don’t their health deteriorates. They don’t have any predators in today’s world."
Funny how the solution is right there, and yet he jumps to killing to 'control' them

"So long as [wolves] are kept away from farms and large populations, as they are in Yellowstone and Scandinavia, I say live and let live."
Except in Britain, apparently? Why do we expect others to live alongside apex predators if we are unwilling to?

In the context of gardens, rewilding would mean planting native species that benefit pollinators, creating habitat for native species, maybe adding water to benefit amphibians or creating a wildflower meadow - not having a manicured garden with a monoculture of grass (2/2).
This entirely misses the point of what rewilding is and perpetuates the misconception that rewilding = no human intervention or a 'hands-off' approach. (1/2)

I hate headlines like this. When wolves take sheep, they don't know that they are doing anything 'wrong', and they certainly are not 'waging a war' against people. This is anthropomorphism at its worst.

Had a great conversation about 'Wolves in Beowulf' on the @NewBooksNetwork@newhistorybooks podcast! Featuring: speech-stealing wolves, a pet hedgehog, Michael Jackson's 'Thriller', female trolls with wolves for steeds, & much more #podcast#wolf#wolves

Without commenting on the ethicality of the decision itself, there is an issue with references to the 'alpha' wolf of the Camperdown pack in this @thetimes article. (1/3)
https://t.co/KiLdQFmpFn
Wolf packs usually constitute family units - a breeding pair + their offspring from one or several litters. Describing how in another pack 'the female did not accept the next male wolf in the pecking order' falsely suggests that other pack members can replace the 'alphas' (3/3).
So the BBC is now effectively censoring the voice of nature David Attenborough on factual and vital content based on the potential reaction from Tory MPs and right wing newspapers
These are truly dark days

Mounting peer-reviewed, published studies show killing native carnivores like wolves, coyotes, and cougars does not effectively prevent losses of domestic livestock, and can even make wildlife-livestock conflicts more likely to occur.
