The world was short on AI commentary, so here are some thoughts, field notes, and a personal update: I'm taking a short sabbatical to get closer to the building, the teams, and how companies are adapting.
What the Figma bears are missing is the paradox in their thinking. Design isn’t dead, it’s that the cost of initial ideation has collapsed.
And when this happens, the bottleneck shifts from brainstorming to judgement.
The more crowded the sand box (Claude, Stitch etc) becomes, the greater the need for a co-ordination layer for intent.
If there were only two ways to design a software feature, you wouldn’t need a coordinator.
But when product managers, engineers and marketers can spin up thousands of variations each day, processing the noise levels up.
Judgement is the new scarcity.

Only properly tried Claude's slide-deck generation tonight. Disappointing tbh. Design especially, but content strategy too. The trick was telling it to just use whatever format suited it and I'd port it into a deck myself. Night and day.
Okay, I was expecting Midjourney’s hardware announcement to be a digital art frame. Maybe a camera. But this is incredible.
"Less than a dozen of these machines operating together at full speed can do more full body scans than every MRI machine together on Earth. Our goal is to build a fleet of 50,000 of these scanners, capable together of doing a billion scans a month—enough to bring full body imaging to everyone on Earth."
Jaya's piece. "The question is whether the next trillion-dollar platforms are built by adding AI to existing data, or by capturing the decision traces that make data actionable." https://t.co/RFnd3CL3hx
Great read. Nadella's 'token capital' lands on same idea a few others (incl @JayaGup10) have circled this quarter from very different chairs: the model isn't the moat. Broad agreement on the mechanism, but interesting where each thinks the value actually sits.
New substack out: A self-taught broccoli farmer, my university’s resident oracle, AI, Renaissance roleplay, company-building, and a few other things that caught my attention this week. (link below)
@gbrl_dick@bryan_johnson@_katetolo How is every other American over there actually an Australian expat?
Like I get it, I was one. But still. Everywhere.
