the brince era was one for the books. receiving a total of 13 nomination points was painful, but on the upside, that nomination brought brent and mika even closer.

brent didnʼt want to leave yet. right after the nomination results, he told mika he wanted to be final duos with her. when esnyr asked if he had any “habilin” in case he got evicted, he told him he had none because he didnʼt want to manifest. when shuvee said sheʼd cry if he and vince got evicted, he asked her to knock on wood. clearly, he wanted to stay. but in hindsight, he was also preparing for the possibility of being evicted. cue to him inviting mika to do cafe hopping and have dog dates in the outside world. back then, it was his way of letting her know his intent—that nothing would change and he still wanted to be friends with her even in the outside world.

brent wearing mikaʼs cartier bracelet and mika wearing brentʼs cross necklace on the eviction night felt like an acceptance that it could be their goodbye, that they wanted to at least have a piece of each other with them, but also a promise that theyʼd find their way back, no matter what. the exchange felt like a symbol of the unbreakable bond theyʼd formed. the crazy part, however, was “before mag-announce ng ma-e-evict, sinuot niya saʼkin yun sa may garden area.” making her wear his necklace was one thing, but putting it on her himself was another. especially when heʼd actually been expecting to be evicted that night, which he shared in an interview in the outside world. that gesture felt akin to a soldier giving his dog tags to his girlfriend/wife before leaving for war, so that sheʼll have something to remember him by.

“pag di ko siya suot, ang laging sinasabi saʼkin ni brent, 'asan yung cross necklace mo? yun yung lucky charm mo eh.'” indeed, it was. ever noticed that mika wore the necklace on important occasions and how it always seemed to make things work in her favor?
- during the third duo battle where esmi won an immunity
- during the fourth nomination night, even though she was immuned and safe and didnʼt need any “lucky charm,” but maybe she did need one, not for herself but for brent, and it worked because went was also safe from the nomination
- at the big carnival concert, a successful weekly task
- during the fifth eviction night where she and brent were saved
- during the final duo formation task where she ranked sixth
- during the final duo formation itself where she got to choose her desired final duo
- during the final nomination night where breka received 0 nomination points
- during the announcement of the result of the last big jump challenge where breka won
- and perhaps on other occasions that i missed or we werenʼt given the chance to see either on the livestream or primetime

brent gave the necklace to mika thinking he would be leaving, wanting that necklace to protect her and keep her safe. for someone who just received a record high 13 nomination points and then barely survived the eviction, one would think heʼd need a “lucky charm” more, but he didnʼt ask for the necklace back, as if he couldnʼt have cared less about his own safety inside the house as long as hers was guaranteed. he protected her in ways he knew how because she was his big winner so early in the game. but maybe his lucky charm wasnʼt a necklace, but a person. someone who was rooting for him as much as he was rooting for her. they were each otherʼs big winner through and through. looking back, brentʼs “we really protected each other even when we werenʼt duos” made so much sense, because not only were they each otherʼs anchor, but also each otherʼs protector inside the house.
