As a person who has seen Severance before the hype train, I think some of the comments and discourses are the price of the show becoming popular. Before it got renewed, the show attracted a very specific audience. Now, everyone watches it, even people who can not comprehend media
severance is so focused on vertical hierarchy especially represented literally through space as Floors and Stairs that it's baffling me how so many people could see gemma being tortured literally underneath mark and the rest of the MDR team and not consider them culpable at all
lumon literally manufactured the trauma and grief that outie mark experienced for years likely bc they knew he’d sever himself and yall are acting like he’s not also a victim in the narrative? acting like he’s the real villain of the show? be so fucking serious
the death of Event TV means that our cultural immune system is not prepared to reckon with the fact that when a show becomes massively popular the dumbest people alive - just by sheer probability - will be loudly commenting on it too
this is why i think the show is soooo brilliant and u can even see with the discourse happening how it perfectly mirrors how ppl will blame each other before blaming the real oppressors
neither innie mark nor outie mark are villains. the villain here is still, as it has been since the beginning, lumon. both marks were put in an impossible decision that would result in unethical and morally complex decisions either way BECAUSE of lumon.
like .. ship discourse is so fucking stupid i stg why don’t people have nuance anymore … its not just ones evil and ones good like they can both be flawed but still good intentioned and justified in their actions 😭
