Today, the Conservatives tabled an Opposition Day motion in the House of Commons calling on the Government to exempt convicted rapists, paedophiles and grooming gang offenders from its automatic early release scheme.
The motion called for:

• Rapists to be excluded from automatic early release.

• Convicted paedophiles and child sexual exploitation offenders, including grooming gang members, to be excluded.

• These offenders to continue serving the longer custodial terms that applied before the Government’s sentencing changes.

The House of Commons backed the motion. However, as an Opposition Day motion, it is not legally binding and does not change the law.

NEW: DHS confirms that a suspect arrested and charged with rape and strongarm kidnapping of a woman in Fairfax County, VA is a previously deported Salvadoran illegal alien and ICE has placed a detainer on him with local law enforcement asking them not to release him. DHS says Juan Arevalo Mendez has a lengthy criminal history prior to these charges, including assault, aggravated assault – weapon, strongarm aggravated assault – non-family, aggravated assault with a gun – non-family, drug possession, destruction of property, illegal re-entry, obstructing justice, and making a false report, as well as prior arrests for identity theft, drug possession, and larceny.

“DHS is calling on Governor Abigail Spanberger and her fellow sanctuary politicians in Fairfax County to commit to not releasing this dangerous criminal from jail, and to instead turn him over to ICE custody so that we can remove him from our nation and end his crime spree in our country. Dear Executive Commissioner Muth,

Last week’s United States Supreme Court’s ruling on birthright citizenship in Trump v. Barbara has potentially devastating ramifications for Texas, which has well documented “birth tourism” companies, which recruit persons from foreign countries like China. Additionally, Texas was also invaded by millions of illegal immigrants during the Biden Administration. We know these aliens include violent murderers, terrorists, and drug cartel members. Due to the absurd reasoning of the Supreme Court’s majority ruling, children born in Texas to these illegals will be eligible for state welfare programs, eventually able to vote in our elections, and afforded citizenship – even if they literally never set foot on Texas or American soil and are flown home hours or days after birth.

Texans deserve action, not just rhetoric, from their state leaders. We must start acting like the sovereign state we are and stop taking it on the chin when actions from DC threaten to destroy the very fabric of our republic. The Texas government must not simply act like a powerless bystander but take bold and decisive action to protect liberty for future generations.

While I am calling for a special session to take legislative action, such as making birth tourism a felony, under current law, you have broad authority right now to determine who is “properly qualified” to receive a certified birth certificate.

I am writing to inquire what steps the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) has taken to designate parents who are participating in birth tourism or who are non-citizens as not “properly qualified” to receive a birth certificate for their children and to deny them birth certificates.

If no such action is occurring, then please consider this my formal request to immediately take all necessary action to STOP ISSUING BIRTH CERTIFICATES TO NON-CITIZENS.

Today, as part of “Operation Hard Ball,” law enforcement in the U.S., Canada, and Europe unsealed indictments charging 37 defendants linked to three India-based criminal syndicates in three separate indictments.

These defendants, including two crime bosses already imprisoned in India, are charged with racketeering conspiracy, extortion, trafficking bulk quantities of cocaine by semi-trucks, and murder, including the June 2023 assassination of a political and religious figure as he left a Sikh temple in broad daylight in Canada.

Victims of these transnational criminal syndicates include members of the Indian diaspora, some in the Los Angeles area. They were extorted and threatened by these criminals, who used their notoriety for violence to make money. Another cash cow was drug trafficking, including shipping cocaine and other narcotics stolen from rival crews from the U.S. into Canada.

These ruthless criminals spread misery worldwide. Law enforcement agencies will continue to coordinate globally to combat them wherever they are.

From the Juneteenth holiday weekend through the Fourth of July holiday weekend, at least 67 people were shot and at least 11 people were killed in Chicago, and that does not even include every shooting that happened between those two holiday periods.

Juneteenth weekend (June 19–22, 2026) 47 people were shot, 8 killed and 39 wounded.

Fourth of July weekend (2026) show that more than 20 people were shot, with at least 3 people killed during the long holiday weekend.

Combined total for those two holiday weekends:

About 67 people shot

At least 11 people killed

This does not include the shootings that occurred in between those two holiday weekends.

Families are grieving. Communities are hurting. These are not just statistics, these are mothers, fathers, children, neighbors, and loved ones.

We cannot normalize violence. We cannot ignore what people are experiencing on the ground.

As Mayor, public safety will be a top priority.
I will support our police officers, hold offenders accountable, focus on repeat violent offenders, and work to make every Chicago neighborhood safe.

Chicagoans deserve leadership that tells the truth, listens to the people, and acts.
