But even if he did, a not guilty plea still makes sense legally. For example they can try supress that piece of evidence by claiming violation of miranda etc.

He didn’t have any chance of a plea deal to eliminate the death penalty, so his best option is to make it as difficult as possible for the prosecution.

If someone wants to kill their kids, you can’t expect medications to be 100% effective in preventing it for every person, even if it was the perfect cocktail.

It opens the door for any number of alternative theories.

You then need evidence to support them.
