Scrolling through my tweets, and wondering what my future famous self and publisher will say about my social media presence.
Them: you GIF a lot.
Me:...........
Them: aren’t you a writer?

@EmJoServices I’m taking this advice seriously. I’ve got the gumption and consistency, but am missing the mentor aspect. Do you have advice on landing a good, encouraging, and seasoned mentor?
May 2023 – I landed my first client for $2500.
How?
A simple three-word phrase.
(This phrase will help you land your first client.)
---
My mentor, who had 37+ years of copywriting experience, drilled this into me.
I heard it first in January...
I'm sat at the round table in the Creative Room with my boss and a few colleagues.
We're planning out our next three months.
One of the girls suggests a sale.
My boss says:
“Hollywood smells need.”
Huh?
What does that mean?
I don't know what the hell that means.
But it's not the time to ask.
So after the meeting I google the phrase.
No results.
Hmm...
The next day we're writing an email to our 30,000+ mailing list.
He mentions it again:
“Hollywood smells need.”
So I ask him:
“What does that actually mean?”
And he finally explains:
In the competitive world of Hollywood...
Casting directors can sense desperation for a role from actors.
The ones that need the role usually don't get it.
Their desperation and neediness works against them.
Whereas a confident easy-going actor who doesn't necessarily need the role tends to get it.
You see...
It's the same with sales.
That's why your first client is always the hardest to get.
Because you're desperate for it. You're pushy.
Make sense?
I remember how frustrating it was to get my first client.
But then I realised it was my fault.
I was needy.
Then I changed my mindset.
And I landed my first ghostwriting client for $2,500.
Within two weeks I had three coaching clients too.
I didn't need any more.
But guess what...
Even though I raised my prices every client...
I was converting with ease.
I pushed people away but it made them want to work with me even more.
So here's the truth:
If you want to get your first client...
Imagine you have five clients already.
Think of it like this:
You don't need their money. They need your service.
Because at the end of the day...
You're going to get them results.
It's a simple reframe.
But it's crazy effective.
“Hollywood smells need.”

435….low word count for a 24 hour period, but it’s more than I normally write in 365 days so it’s worth the celebration! Building consistent habits no matter the numbers.

@Latina_Schatje@joeclark_343 It’s not about producing a manuscript for me, it’s about the concept of writing everyday. It’s one month out of the year where I prioritize writing without excuse. I tell all my family and friends so they understand it’s my month to selfishly write.
@Latina_Schatje For me, it’s to rebuild a habit of wanting to write every day. Also, life is so crazy I sometimes get down and think I’ll never actually write a book. One month of hard writing instead of nothing, Is appealing! It’s like allowing myself a vacation to write!
She was born w/out #fingerprints. Her words couldn't be remembered. She found the cracks in the air, & slid thru a crowd unnoticed. Cameras couldn't hold her image for more than a few seconds. When she was gone, there was just a wound in the ground w/a nameless headstone.
