I always think looking at the Sunday Times lists is a good way for authors to understand importance of the “hook” or USP of their novels! As publishers, being able to sum up books like this plays a huge part in how we sell them to readers & looking at these you can see examples.

One more time, how to write: Stop not writing. Sit down by pre-arrangement w/yourself. No one cares if you write or not so you’d better. Keep your butt in the chair. Write a small passage, badly. Make it better, ie take out adverbs & boring parts. then write another passage badly

@AmyThunig A helpful message. My "high functioning" students look calm on the surface, but might be drowning in worry or feeling overwhelmed on the inside. It is a very unhelpful term that reduces awareness of what a student might need from me in the classroom

@HannahKWebster1 As a high school teacher I find myself having to challenge this kind of talk a lot. It's horrifying to hear it coming from such young kids. Schools are working really hard to combat this kind of racism and misogyny, but it feels like a losing battle some days 😔
