Congrats to our 18 newest conservation officers, who graduated today from the CO Academy. Now, they'll head to field training with experienced COs till early December. We welcome them to the Enforcement Division, and are sure they will carry on our proud, 137-year tradition.
We couldn’t be prouder of Grace Zeller, a full-time Enforcement helicopter pilot since 2022. She answered an emergency call while off duty, scrambled to get into the air to get a rescue mission underway, and didn’t think twice about putting the needs of others above her own.
Sound up!
A few days ago, DNR CO Justin Frisch and retired CO Brad Johnson reunited a loon chick and its parents and sibling on a Cambridge-area lake.
Just another reminder of the awesomeness of nature.
COs chatted today with hundreds of fifth-grade students in the Alexandria area during Youth Safety Day. This and similar events provide a great opportunity to talk about important safety topics and provide early, positive interactions with law enforcement!

Today’s the day! The application period for our CO Prep program, which requires at least a two-year degree but not a law enforcement background, closes at the end of the day. If you’re an honest, hard-working self-starter, we’d love to hear from you!

After a conservation officer visited her firearms safety class, Annette Kyllo knew being a CO was what she eventually wanted to do. A few years later, she made it happen. Follow your dreams, kids. And adults – it’s not too late to follow yours, either.

There was a great story this morning on @espn about our K9 Unit. The dogs and their handlers do great work to protect Minnesota's people and natural resources. The program was an hour long, but here's the segment specific to the @mndnr.

Congrats to Alexandria CO Mitch Lawler on being named 2023 Conservation Officer of the Year!
“Mitch is the epitome of what we look for in a conservation officer and is extremely deserving of this recognition,” said Col. Rodmen Smith, director of the DNR Enforcement Division.
Looking for a change? We’re hiring.
We’d love to see you at one of two career fairs:
March 6: 5 to 7 p.m. in the cafeteria of DNR Headquarters in St. Paul.
March 8: 5 to 7 p.m. in the amphitheater at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College in Cloquet.

Despite the cold, COs are seeing widely varying ice conditions across Minnesota. CO Nick Prachar says everyone should "check all ice for yourself before venturing onto it."
For more on current conditions, and to read about what COs have been up to, see: https://t.co/CWCakU7OFP
Ice conditions have changed markedly in recent days. In some places, there’s open water. In other areas, conditions are uneven and changing frequently. The forecast looks good, but ice conditions will be poor until there’s a string of cold days.

Two 8-point whitetail bucks in southern MN with their antlers locked together got a new lease on life yesterday. Here's video of CO Jamie VanThuyne popping their antlers free and watching them tear off into the woods - apparently none the worse for wear.

COs and personnel from several area agencies rescued dozens of anglers last night from Upper Red Lake after a sheet of ice detached in strong winds, creating about 200 feet of open water. The incident highlights how quickly the ice can change. Thankfully, nobody was injured.
COs and their law enforcement partners have gotten into the holiday spirit in recent days at Shop with a Cop events. Here are COs Annette Kyllo, Mitch Lawler and Felicia Znajda pairing up with kids to do a little shopping and bonding. The smiles on everyone’s faces say it all!
