@mtg_ds My other idea is too complicated and doesn't address the color thing much, but it'd be interested to have it more like fantasy sports or betting where cards have prices/costs based on popularity, and you're trying to guess overperformers vs best cards. ALSA improvement is close.
@mtg_ds You already have a great formula, but I'd consider tweaks to dilute the effect of predicting color imbalance (see for example how the OTJ leaderboard comes down to picking green cards):
- Use IWD somehow for the 2 other commons and #2CUDS
- Make it 2 commons of each color
@fakejakebrowne From 128 entries, 6 people went 6-1 and 2 went 6-0, so 8/128. For computing gem rewards, 6 people went 5-2 (100% refund), and 10 went 4-2 (40% refund) so 10/128 = 7.8% gems won back. About $26,000 worth of that. Some people hit bugs and idk how comps worked.
@fakejakebrowne Love these stats. If we assume people were always matched against the same record, then 1 of every 16 entries trophies (more entries if anyone drops). So those 831 trophies accounted for 13,296 entries from mostly-not-17lands-users! $332,400 of gems.
@MikeSteinMTG Also worth noting: they tend to comp entries for normal events even if you go on to trophy. I suspect that means they would give you 5k gems on top of a box if you went 6-1.
@MikeSteinMTG Oof. What is/was your record? You’re probably supposed to play this out. Unfortunately I suspect they’re likely to just refund the entry (maybe extra gems) given the duration of the event. FWIW their non -Premier response time has been 24-36h for me, including weekends.
@mtg_ds Imo none of Phantom Monster, Opt, and Divination are good in a typical recent format (tho context changes this sometimes). I think Sand Augury is more like {2}{U} given how overcosted the creature is; then the thing that makes this interesting is it loans you {1} til the dragon.
@StunlockFTW@MSigrist83 Wow interesting, this was the first I’ve heard of EV tax. Mildly infuriating, but sounds like the intent is to line up with what you would pay in gas tax. My annual mileage is low so it’d cost me more than gas tax if I lived in NC. Do you think it nets out to be similar for you?
@ChicosCardos @emmadpartlow You play a game full of probability, so I bet this is bad faith. In case you’re really asking: The vaccines work! They are more than 0% effective but also less than 100% effective. Same with masking. Tons of evidence for all that. Both > one > none. Hope that clears it up. 😊
