Discovered today that Paul’s use of “in Christ” language *quadruples* when he’s in prison.

@ScottAniol Some serious flaws in his reasoning. I’ve yet to meet a passionate Sabbatarian who can tell me what is permitted and forbidden in order to rightly observe the Sabbath or where the Scriptures move it to Sunday.

@PastorDHall @ABlakeWhite This is important. I had the strict Sabbatarians come after me. Somehow the Sabbath keeping according to their precise definition of it was more important than kindness. They had all kinds of rules for me, but guess what I worked every Sunday. Sunday was never a day of rest.

@swamthetiber25 I’m not sure the Catholic and Protestant definition of faith is different, The difference is with how works relate to justification. That is the why the reformation focused on the work Alone - Faith Alone.

@DracoReformans @Modern1689 yes the Lord’s Day is mentioned but you are the one assuming that is the same thing as the Sabbath. It was never observed as the Sabbath. Zero rules about work etc. Absolutely ZERO indication the Lord’s Day is the Sabbath. Infant baptism has more NT support.

@PastorDHall @ABlakeWhite That’s a stretch…but nice try. If it’s tied to Creation as a perpetual ceremonial command then it can’t be switched to Sunday. The 4th commandment is still to be observed by finding our rest in Christ, not by observing a day because He was always the substance.

@Modern1689 @DracoReformans If it’s a “creation ordinance” how can it move without a word? Christian worship is distinctly different from the Sabbath observance. The early church often met late into the evening on Sunday. Where are the positive commands in the NT.

@DracoReformans So Christ is not the substance of what the Sabbath points toward? If not, what’s the point? And no, there is zero evidence of any Sabbath observance before the giving of the law. And the three-fold division is useful, but artificial.

@PastorDHall @ABlakeWhite Can you give any biblical evidence John meant the OT Sabbath when he said the Lords’s Day? You can’t. It doesn’t exist. But Paul did say to disregard those who try to enforce the shadows.

@BrandonLansdown So what are the rules? What can you do and not do on Sunday? Who should enforce them? Where are they in the NT? Why does Paul give no actual instruction regarding the Sabbath except to disregard those who try to enforce such things?

@ostrachan I had strict Sabbatarians come after me when I was a pastor for coaching baseball and allowing my son to play on Sunday afternoons. Wanted me fired. When I asked what I’m allowed to do on Sunday, they had no answer. But they think they are holy for reading purtians all day.
