Some folks have asked me, "Why should we be concerned about policy?"
The reason is that policy defines actions and priorities!
This is a serious and important topic. Don't forget to sign up and attend today's webinar.

Copernicus #Sentinel2 imagery reveals extensive #landslides near the fault rupture of yesterday's M7.2 #earthquake in western #Haiti. Comparison with previous (Aug 9) image.
What a difference a decade makes. Dedicated earthquake professionals in Haiti now operate a local seismic network that gives us a view of aftershocks down to M3s. The jury is out on direction of rupture, but aftershocks sure suggest mostly unilateral to the west.
8/18 from 3 to 4 pm Moutain time!!!!!! Come learn from professionals engaged in planning for sustainability, equity, and resilience, as well as hear professional development advice! Hosted by @APASCD@uofuplanning.
It is now confirmed that there is NO expected Tsunami threat for the California coast.
Any waves will start to reach our coasts in 90 minutes, and heights should be below 1ft. There could be locally strong currents in harbors as waves arrive. #cawx#tsunami
Large earthquakes in Alaska are common. Last night's quake was on the same subduction zone that hosted the 2nd largest eq (M9.2) recorded on modern instrumentation in March 1964. If you haven’t seen it yet, check out the story about the 1964 earthquake. https://t.co/CESiBrtFC0
What a tsunami warning sounds like… they tested this earlier today too but this time is for real! M8.2, looks like on the subduction zone interface.
(and look at those pretty peonies! 🌸)
If you have damage to report, please contact your local emergency manager or relay to your local National Weather Service office.
Remember, strong currents may remain a danger for several hours after unusual waves appear to settle.
Many thanks to @USResiliency for putting together the excellent panel today!
