25 years ago, 2,974 lives and families were changed forever. The attacks profoundly impacted Canada, taking the lives of 24 Canadians and resulting in our 12 year operations in Afghanistan where 158 Canadians made the ultimate sacrifice and thousands were injured as a result of their service.

In the years since, September 11th has formally become Canada’s National Day of Service, and the Provincial Day of Service in the province of Ontario — meant to remember the courage and compassion in the aftermath of 9/11 and rekindle the spirit of kindness and goodwill that unified our country best exhibited by our friends in Gander, Newfoundland.

Saturday’s @WoundWarriorCA Ride for Mental Health was about more than cycling. This annual initiative is about standing with first responders, veterans and their families, raising awareness for mental health and helping ensure supports are available for those who need them. Each year, I am honoured to participate and grateful to everyone who helps make it a success. Together, we are sending a powerful message that seeking support is a sign of strength.

La randonnée cycliste de Wounded Warriors en faveur de la santé mentale samedi dernier était bien plus qu’une activité à vélo. Cette initiative annuelle prône la solidarité avec les premiers intervenants et premières intervenantes, avec les vétérans et avec leurs familles, la sensibilisation à propos de la santé mentale et l’aide pour faire de sorte que le soutien est à portée de main de celles et ceux qui en ont besoin. Chaque année, c’est un honneur pour moi d’y participer et d’exprimer ma reconnaissance envers toutes celles et tous ceux qui aident à en faire de l’événement un succès. Ensemble, nous partageons un puissant message qui dit que la recherche du soutien est un signe de force.

A @TorontoPolice officer was shot overnight while responding to a robbery call. The officer has sustained serious injuries. Our thoughts are with the injured officer, the family, and all members of the Toronto Police Service.

This unprecedented level of violence directed at police officers across Canada must end.

3 police officers have died by suicide in 3 days.

Suicide is difficult to talk about. In policing, where stigma can still be a powerful barrier, that conversation can be even harder.

Our policing community continues to grieve the deaths of these members and our thoughts remain with their families, friends and colleagues.

Sgt. Aaron Thompson and seven others are running the length of Vancouver Island to raise awareness of and support for Wounded Warriors Canada. They’ve already run more than 100 kilometres since Saturday, travelling from Port Hardy to Woss.
Aaron has shared his thoughts from the first few days of the run:
The support from the northern communities during this fundraising run has been incredible. Every step has been a reminder of how generous people are and how powerful it is when we come together for a meaningful cause.
Beyond the kilometres, this experience has been about building relationships, meeting people, hearing their stories, and seeing firsthand the impact that Wounded Warriors Canada has on those it supports. The conversations along the way have been honest, emotional, and inspiring, and they reinforce why this work matters so much.
I am grateful to represent the Saanich Police while running for a cause that truly makes a difference. Thank you to everyone who has supported, donated, and shared encouragement along the way. Together we are making a difference and saving lives.
