The weather world has lost a true giant of a bigger-than-life scholar, mentor, practitioner, and leader. The world is a dimmer place today without Dr. Charles Doswell.
He forgot more about meteorology, and especially severe weather meteorology and radar than I will ever know. He was always kind and patient and willing to share that knowledge with me and anyone else.
Vaya Con Dios.
Heartbreaking 💔
Damaging tornado hitting Trenton MO about an hour ago. Went into car wash to intercept hail when cell merge occurred and prompted the #Tornado. Close call and stop sign at our lot came down! Thankfully weaker tornado #MOwx@NWSKansasCity
@NWSKansasCity I have my weather radio programed to alarm ONLY for tornado warnings in Jackson county via SAME codes.
It has worked just fine for several years. It did not alarm last night. Did anyone else have a similar experience?
Our dispatchers & call takers are quick thinkers.
They use five to six monitors at a time while disseminating information from residents in distress. Officers rely on them to serve the public & keep safe.
They are critical to Kansas City’s public safety.
#telecommunicatorsweek
For those of you who have been following the #LRC for the past two decades, well you won't be that shocked at this. I plotted the top two maps 100-days ago predicting a severe weather risk for this week. And, the bottom two maps are from the SPC right now for Tue & Wed!
The weather radio transmitter in KC (KID-77) is currently off the air. We are working to resolve it with the service company technicians.
Please find alternate methods to get warnings as storms move into the area later tonight.
