Christopher Nolan did not explain why Calypso was stuck on that island alone. The reason why Calypso lives or is bound to the island Ogygia is because she's the daughter of the titan Atlas. Calypso sided with the Titans ( the losers) during the war of the gods. So after the Olympian gods defeated the Titans, Zeus banished Calypso to the island Ogygia. She's to live in isolation. So when Odysseus washed up to her island she didn't let him go. She kept him there for seven years as a spouse and even had kids with him. Odysseus longed to leave and always cried about it every single day, until Athena brought the matter to Zeus and Zeus sent Hermes to Calypso commanding her to let Odysseus go otherwise he'd sink her island at the bottom of Poseidon's Sea. Calypso only let him go because Zeus himself commanded her.. lol.
She never fed him lotus leaves to forget about Penelope. Odysseus was very much aware about the years he spent with her. Seriously, I wish Nolan's Odyssey movie was true to the mythology.
