"Very interestingly, when I got here I couldn't find one police officer."
Joining from Belfast, @AndyHughesCrime discusses with James O'Brien how last night's riots could be 'linked to Northern Ireland's longer history'.
‘Look at the top of every part of our society, white men are doing alright.’
@lewis_goodall rubbishes the idea that it's white men who are being discriminated against in Britain.
This is how Belfast looks on my femicide map.
Each of the ~1,000 pins is for a woman or girl murdered in Belfast between 1900 - 2025.
Almost all of them murdered by men and mostly by the type of men who were strolling around Belfast tonight wrecking their own city. /1
In the 1980s, a man found the remains of a pigeon in his chimney. A coded message from World War Two was attached to its leg. To this day, no one has decoded it. (📷: GCHQ)
When Metropolitan Police officer Wayne Couzens kidnapped and murdered Sarah Everard, Nigel Farage released a five-minute video urging people not to attack men or the police.
Today, in response to the murder of Henry Nowak, he called for "pure cold rage."
In the best schools, care for the children goes beyond the classroom:
The office staff greeting them warmly
The lunch staff making sure they’ve eaten
The caretaker stopping to help
The cleaner smiling in the corridor
TAs and teachers encouraging them to keep going
Different roles.
Same shared care for children.
I just walked past that lot.
It is an out and out racist march.
It’s gross to be anywhere near.
Anyone who says this is normal people expressing normal sentiments isn’t normal.
To emphasise a perspective not seen outside of the Farage obsessed UK media French TV news reported actual facts, these being.
Following the British local elections
154 UK Councils are led by Labour
12 are led by Reform.
200,000 people in 8 years. That is only 0.29% of the UK population over 8 years.
Yet it’s in the news every single day.
In that same time 4,000,000 people have emigrated away from the UK (twenty times as many people).
The news is in league with Farage. Sadly it’s working.
The older I get, the more I believe happiness lives in the ordinary. Pets. Plants. A quiet morning coffee. Blue sky. Cotton clouds. Birds singing. The gentle breeze through the trees. A clean, cosy house. Good food. Good hearted simple poeple. So much of life’s beauty is quiet, gentle, and already here. And somehow, one of the sweetest feelings is knowing I get to wake up and meet it all again tomorrow.

You're going to hear a lot about how Reform is now a national party.
It's not true, as John Curtice sets out here. They're doing very well in areas that voted strongly for Brexit and not very well at all in areas that voted strongly Remain @Prosper_UK_

Ever wondered where your tax money actually goes? 💷
@BBCNews broke it down by imagining we each handed the Government £100.
Here’s how that £100 was spent in 2023–24:
£22 → NHS
£6 → Defence
£10 → Education
£10 → Debt interest
£11.40 → State pensions
£4.15 → Working-age welfare (PIP, Universal Credit, health support)
£0.50 → Asylum system
£0.70 → Overseas aid
What strikes me most is this: immigration dominates headlines and public debate, consistently ranking as one of the nation’s top concerns — yet the asylum system accounts for just 0.5% of public spending.
A reminder that sometimes the loudest issues aren’t the largest ones.
#Budget2026
Don't know about you, but I would feel totally safe with an immigrant living next door. I would not feel totally safe with a far right idiot living next door.
