@CBCOntarioToday We have reading assessments cross country but math assessments and math benchmarks are less common occurring at board or even school only. We need mental math benchmarks beginning in grade 1 to close in on these math gaps. Exploratory, real world driven, Key Message: Math is Fun!

@CBCOntarioToday@WellingtonCath@Cathy Chaput is absolutely on point with her comments. Students need a superhero 'toolbelt' of skills and strategies to approach any given problem. Traditional algorithms need less emphasis and more time should be given to mental math in the domains of +/- ; x,/ ; 1:1
“This is the way...” assessment is not a Disney fiction it is not the mandalorian. Assessment should not be done the same way it has been always. “I try to catch cheaters..” if you can cheat, cheat. That is critical thinking in and of itself. We can model better assessment
#ThursdayLearnDay held the best surprise! One of the world’s first NEW #microbit was unboxed this morning at @CalgaryAcademy!
Not only does it have a microphone, speaker and capacitive touch - the packaging is made with soy-based inks so it’s recyclable!
Thanks @KatieHenryDays!
@NHenryFundi @nick_ngafook Agreed. This is a futile exercise. Waist of tax payer money and gets the next generation no further than the previous ones. #UNglobalgoals
The focus on curriculum is farcical. Leaders in education need to speak out more! Curriculum is insignificant compared to soft skills and competency based education! Individual focus! Strength based! And community! ...Picasso? Are you serious? 💆
Education models and best practices for years have indicated clearly that exams are not a significant measure of aptitude! Tests? Written exams? Are we living in Victorian era? ...wait, yes. We are.
As high schools across the country scrap exams because of the COVID-19 pandemic, some experts say now is the time to re-evaluate what those tests look like to ensure they serve all students.
