The allegations against Russell Brand are difficult to process. Though I will not exclaim anyone’s innocence or guilt, I will say that I hope the social media response to allegations of this nature will change. There has been a lot of harmful, victim-blaming rhetoric.
@kat3mat3 These are photos from public events and professional photo shoots. Displaying one’s body in these situations doesn’t excuse a photo previously sent to an ex-IP privately being distributed by said ex-IP without consent on an international SM platform. It’s an invasion of privacy.
Though I do not support the Defendant in the context of #DeppVsHeard, seeing an ex-IP share a supposed intimate photo with sexual connotation on an SM site is incredibly bothersome. It is a massive invasion of privacy. If consent was not secured, that’s borderline revenge porn.
@kat3mat3@lilmissaurora1 Hence why I noted borderline due to the sexual connotation/implication. And it is still an intimate photo that an ex-IP likely didn’t consent to having distributed on an international SM for bragging rights or to satisfy the curiosity of others. It’s in invasion of privacy.
@kat3mat3@lilmissaurora1 It is distributing sexually explicit images on the internet without the consent of the individual. Usually there is intent to intimidate or humiliate.
@MaddieWali Do not apologize. It’s extremely difficult to have in-depth, multifaceted conversations in this format. I appreciate your willingness to discuss.
@MaddieWali You’re entitled to yours too. However, it isn’t about the Defendant’s supporters & their choices to weaponize photos she took without consent. It’s about a billionaire sharing a supposed intimate photo without the ex-IPs consent on an international SM platform seemingly for fun.
@lilmissaurora1 Perhaps it’s more so non-consensual intimate imagery distribution. Either way it’s wildly inappropriate and sets a harmful example (2/2).
@lilmissaurora1 Revenge porn doesn’t need to actually be about “revenge.” It is simple distributing sexually explicit images on the internet without the consent of the individual. As I stated, it seems borderline due to the sexual connotation (1/2)
He is a wealthy billionaire who owns this platform and leveraged it as a means to either brag about or embarrass an ex-IP. I do not want to lose sight of the moral disengagement we can all fall victim to because it involves the Defendant. This is incredibly harmful behavior.
I have not watched the #DeppVHeard documentary on Netflix. To be a bit blunt, I feel as though that would be a significant waste of my time.
Have you watched it? What are your thoughts?
This is an example of how an individual with extremely valid, valuable, and applicable credentials, can perpetuate a falsehood pertaining to a psychological theory. This falsehood has become engrained in discourse pertaining to this theory and it is weaponized. That’s an issue.
This is fundamentally incorrect. A DARVO response or the use of DARVO tactics (including accusations or denial, etc.) does not automatically equate to guilt (i.e. a confession). In fact, Dr. Freyd made this explicitly clear as a disclaimer pertaining to her theory of DARVO.
The theory of DARVO presumes that the accused is the perpetrator. It presumes a perpetrator will utilize DARVO as a means to dodge accountability. The Duluth Model presumes the perpetrator’s gender is male based on its conceptual origins in feminist theory.
