Regarding the death of an inmate in Maafushi Prison this morning, I would like to inform that every case of death in prison is independently investigated by the Inspector of Correctional Service. Also if there is any suspicion regarding the circumstances involved in the death of an inmate, @hrcmv will also conduct an independent investigation. I have already asked @PoliceMv to conduct a full investigation and conduct a postmortem of the body with family’s permission. @CorrectionsMv will fully cooperate with all agencies during the investigation of the case. The doctor had determined the cause of death as “Cardiopulmonary Arrest”. As seen on the CCTV footage of the cell, inmate appeared to be praying during his last moments and the body was found in position of “Sujoodh” in his cell this morning. @CorrectionsMv will share the CCTV footage with all investigative agencies too.
