Hysteria has started
Now, the hysteria has started. For Pas/ Bersatu to express shock and dismay at the decision of the federal court is expected, for they are in opposition, but for Umno to want a constitutional amendment to empower Shariah laws is madness. What’s the Deputy President saying when he wants JAKIM to examine the Constitutional amendment?
Before Nik Elin’s case, didn’t these Umno leaders know that since 1957, we are not a theocracy but a civil law country? That means Not every religious law should be in the books; that civil laws are the primary source of laws in governing this country. The Shariah system is for personal laws, but the general body of laws is not religious laws. They didn’t know? Then they must be sleepwalking
The reactions of our Malay politicians to Nik Elin's case show how little they think about the country's future. They seem unable and unwilling to explain to the people that the choice is either we are a democracy governed by one set of general laws (civil laws ) like most countries are, or we are an Afghanistan-Iranian-type theocracy.
If they want to keep Malaysia as it is, like other countries in the world, then they should defend the court's decision. But their reactions are emotional and not grounded in reality
For the Muslims, I say this: Do not temper the Constitution. If you divide this country into two legal systems, you will be disadvantaged for generations. But the ramifications are more severe for the country as a whole
Your leaders will tell you you need more religious laws. But tell them the Shariah laws we have now are not adequately implemented. Why take many years to get a divorce? Why alimony and maintenance payments could not be speedily enforced? Why the backlog of cases in most Shariah courts? Why is there no uniformity of laws between the states? Answer, please
If your Muslim leaders care about your interests, they should make the present system more workable and efficient. They can, for example, be more transparent about how the respective Majlis Agama Islam collects and disburses their zakat funds.
But your leaders have no time for you. It takes hard work to give you a good education and economic power. It’s hard work to create funds to help your business So, they take the easy way. They tell you you need more religious laws. They want the country to be divided
When the system breaks down, You will lose more than the non-Muslims. Your economic rights, freedom, education and culture will suffer because you are not free anymore. Criminal laws will engulf you because they don’t like your morals. Your life will be different, and Malaysia will be unrecognisable
Non-Muslims are not immediately affected. They have their schools; they go to private universities. They can go to their non-halal outlets. When they steal their limbs will not be amputated. But not for long
Many, though, may leave the country. They won’t be staying here for long in a non-functioning country. You can say they can do what they want, but Malaysia is today developed because of their industry and hard work
You are already way behind the non-Muslims today, and instead of trying to improve and catch up, you are busy trying to dismantle the legal system, which has a vast teaching effect. Tell your leaders there are more urgent things to do for the Muslim community
The misconception that there is no sound in space originates because most space is a ~vacuum, providing no way for sound waves to travel. A galaxy cluster has so much gas that we've picked up actual sound. Here it's amplified, and mixed with other data, to hear a black hole!
Some mantras for political thinking:
Truth is hard.
Humility is hard.
Independent thinking is hard.
Resisting tribalism is hard.
Over and over, you will forget that these things are hard, and that's probably when you'll fail at them.

my therapist told me i was a perfectionist and i told her that can’t be true because if i was i would be more successful and then we just kind of sat in silence for a minute and pondered what i had said
Russians can no longer pay for Netflix and Spotify with their bank cards, they also can no longer use Apple pay or Google pay. Before we get rid of cash and go fully down this path, it's worth thinking both about the fragility of the system, and who can turn it off and on.
