@DIMENSION_YT@shawmakesmagic Of course you can do the same with biological brains. And not all biological brains are conscious. This thought experiment once more points to the necessity for a mechanical definition of consciousness. Not that "ThErE SoMeThiNg iT's LiKe tO bE" armchair philosopher garbage.
@thinkingshivers The societal value in consequence is abysmal and definitively puts into question whether non-obviously good art should be publicly funded. And I would argue it shouldn't be. The private pleasures of some artists "who understand the art" is not what public funds are for.
@thinkingshivers The issue with the attempt to divorce the good from the obviously good is that art now pretends to be more than it is. It attempts to operate like a high resolution language, while it is always very low resolution. This allows bad art to remain unchallenged.
@0xSero The purpose is to remind the people that the world around us is not just Avangers and Netflix. As our Western high trust societies were entirely eroded by the "compassionate" it is a necessary reminder of how hostile the world is outside the illusion of the daily dopamine hits.
@Plinz@yonejutsu Self reports are ridiculously unreliable with humans. They are absolutely worthless with machines that are designed to predict the next token. You being gullible does not make that "evidence" of any sort.
@Plinz@robleclerc If we would understand what consciousness is and how it works, it would most likely demystify it entirely. Especially given that it is not even involved in our decision making, or at the very least plays a lesser role than for the longest time believed.
@Plinz@robleclerc While I in no way exclude the possibility that silicon can produce something akin to consciousness, there is not even a definition of it. And as long as this is the case you are substituting 'magic' for its mechanics.
All I was using OBS Studio for was recording monologues. So just made a dedicated app for that for Omarchy. Will ship in next version, and we will drop OBS as a default as a result. https://t.co/6UTbju330X
Math, or any other field of science for that matter, does not exist, nor is it funded by citizens or taxpayers, simply to provide people with careers!
Society has generously granted us scientists with prestige, status & resources in return for our responsibility to advance knowledge, contribute to humanity & move civilization forward. If AI or super-intelligence is able to do that better than our mission has been completed or we can now change our role to help steer it as long as we are able to add value.
Unfortunately, academia has built ivory towers guarded by gatekeepers who have taken advantage of society’s generosity. Superintelligence is now challenging these gatekeepers and throwing the gates wide open. That is precisely why they are so upset.
@CoffeeElemental@ThePrimeagen@yapsdotgg We know pretty well what AIs are doing. The only people who claim that we don't know that usually barely know what software in general is doing. It is also very much commonplace that fundamental knowledge is not widespread and people have to rely on others to understand.
@MattWalshBlog No one is saying that we need AI to do those tasks, in the same way no one was saying that we needed cars to get around. Yet they enabled humanity to achieve ambitions that were impossible otherwise. AI is a tool to enable ambitions beyond what our species could achieve otherwise
