some additional context that went into the carefully considered choice of rendering 安折 as “anzhe” 🧵🪡

firstly, anzhe is not a person, legally or physically. all his documents say an ze, and that’s who he’s assumed to be - the name “anzhe” exists only in his head.

on paper they’re obviously different words, much more than a single letter implies. “anzhe” is rendered this way in EN to preserve a visual difference that would be otherwise lost, in the translation of sound without meaning.

tldr: an ze was a fun guy, but anzhe is fungi. 🍄
