An informal poll by Galen Centre & UiTM shows that "Suku-Suku Separuh" meals are unaffordable for most Malaysian families.

Eating two Suku-Suku Separuh plates a day (quarter carbs, quarter protein and half fruits & veggies) costs nearly half (46%) of household income nationwide.

The disparity by state is wide: from just under a third (32%) of household income in Labuan to two-thirds (66%) of household income in Sarawak.

The national average price of a Suku-Suku Separuh plate is about RM12.60. Prices range from about RM8.50 in Kedah to RM16.30 in KL.

However, prices don't necessarily mean greater cost to a household, relative to income.

For example, although a Suku-Suku Separuh plate is most expensive in KL (RM16.30), eating two such healthy meals daily costs 37% of household income in the capital city, lower than the 46% national average.

In another example, although the price of a Suku-Suku Separuh plate in Kelantan is relatively cheap at RM8.90 (lower than the RM12.60 national average price and fourth cheapest in the country), eating two Suku-Suku Separuh meals daily costs 57% of household income in the state, second highest in the country.
