The fear of writing subpar content is real for me. I feel like every word I write and publish should be channelled towards shifting someone's way of thinking — and helping them get better in life (or just to get what they want). There are time when I had something to say but because it had no visible lesson, I stop myself from writing nor publishing it.
Suddenly, being selective of what to publish and what not to publish feels like a snail recoiling into its shell for survival. Except such shrinking/recoiling isn't for survival for me but for the idea of being percieved a certain way — hence, in trying to be helpful, I am unconsciously shielding parts of myself that would help me make real human connection on this app. In short, shrinking, in a way, is a lack of authenticity.
Wanting to speak my truth, lesson packed or not, comes with its challenges; sharing parts of myself I'm comfortable and uncomfortable about, certain and uncertain about, afraid and unafraid about. Meaning that, as much as I'd speak what comes to mind, I'd have to resume the habit of sitting with self. That way, whatever deep thoughts/reflections I share would be purely out of the self, and everything else would be purely of what frequency/energy I'm vibrating from.
Hosting this picnic was terrifying
I kept asking myself:
Will they show up?
And even after they showed up:
Are they having fun? How can I make this moment memorable for them? I was worrying myself unnecessarily. In the end, eating, drinking and chatting was enough of an experience for us.
i have a habit i dropped after being accused on being tribalistic, but after this tweet, i'll pick it up again. when i ask someone their name. they usually tell me their english name. i don't stop there. i ask for their native name. and if i don't know the meaning, i ask. native names tells me more about that person than the english. english/baptismal names are after thoughts most of the time. the real name, the one usually tied to the identity of the bearer, is the native name.
i want to start writing poetry. deep stuff. especially after watching the quote from one of the scenes of the movie kingdom of heaven. it made me want to read more. then i realize reading only improves vocabulary. i'd rather travel more, live more intensely. because in the end, to write intensely, one ought to live intensely.
When I was sixteen, I won a great victory. I felt in that moment that I would live to be a hundred. Now I know I shall not see thirty.
None of us know our end really. Or what hand will guide us there. A king may move a man. A father may claim a son. That man can also move himself. And only then does that man truly begin his own game.
Remember that how so ever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone. Even though those who presume to play you be Kings or men of power.
When you stand before God you cannot say "but I was told by others to do thus" or "that virtue was not convenient at the time". This will not suffice. Remember that.
- Godfrey de Ibelin
The act of surrendering to a higher power is not a matter of will-power alone because will-power is tied to the notion of self-reliance while surrendering to a higher power is tied to faith/trust/reliance in another power outside of the egocentric self that depends on will-power.
literally said this to a friend a while ago (it's an english parlance from an igbo proverb) "when we urinate together, the urine foams" what does this mean? It means that as much as one head can run the show, when we put heads together and arrive at a decision, it helps us move with one mind and keep everyone on track and ensures we keep learning from each other.
she added "you hear?" at the end of her sentence and my breathing slowed down a bit. just like using nna or nne at the end of a sentence, you hear sounds like an endearment. reminded me of phrases like inugo nna, bia nne, kachifo nna, daalu nne.
Recently hosted a picnic, and while it was a remarkable experience for my guests, I kept shaking my head because I had to witness (first hand) the damage social media has done to human-to-human connection.
At the park, a stone throw to where we sat, there was a group of men and women between the ages of 21-26; if they spent three hours on that park, two and half hours was spent walking and dancing around a tripod and the other half hour was spent eating and leaving.
Why did they come to the park? I caught myself asking. Was it to have a good time with themselves or was it to show their followers that they visited a park? The reality is, in their bid to look cool to their followers, to project a certain perception of themselves, they sacrificed human-to-human connection with the person in front of them for a moment of validation with the person on a screen they might never meet or hang out with on a park.
One flaw, or perhaps an agenda, of religion is creating discord amongst people in a society. Because why would GOD call his own creations infidels in one religion and unbelievers in another as if they all aren't his children?
There’s a rumour ..
That other women cannot rub shoulders with women in Abaya and Hijabs in matters concerning bedroom mechanics.
Even if this rumours were true, this is my stand:
There’s nothing as alluring like a woman who reserves exposing of her body parts to a select few or the selected one.
once lucid dreamed my way into my own funeral. see those people shedding crocodile tears and acting like they knew or cared for me while I was alive? I made sure their cheeks felt hotter than ata r'odo
