Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, who oversees the country’s prison and torture system for Palestinians, said Palestinian prisoners urinate on themselves out of fear when he enters Israeli jails, and claimed he found imprisoned Palestinian leader Marwan Barghouti crying in terror.

“When we enter Israel’s prisons, the Palestinian prisoners piss their pants when they see us, they piss themselves out of fear,” Ben Gvir said.

“We enter Marwan Barghouti’s cell and he was crying in terror. I told the jailers to keep treating them like that.”

The remarks follow a pattern for the Otzma Yehudit (Jewish Power party) leader, who has repeatedly publicized his visits and mistreatment of Palestinian detainees and the worsening of their conditions since taking the prisons portfolio.

In August, he filmed himself confronting Barghouti in his cell, footage the UN human rights office called an attack on Barghouti’s dignity that could encourage further violence against Palestinian prisoners.

Barghouti, 66, has been held since 2002 and is the most popular Palestinian political figure in opinion polls.

Medhat Saleh, who was wounded in Friday’s Israeli strike on a funeral procession in Gaza’s Nuseirat refugee camp, told Drop Site contributor Abdel Qader Sabah that he was heading to a relative’s wedding when he passed the funeral and the attack struck.

“We couldn’t have imagined they would bomb a funeral of this size. Many children, women, and men,” Saleh said. “People have become afraid to walk in the street.”

Footage obtained by Drop Site shows wounded children in the aftermath of the attack.

The strike in the Souq al-Balata area killed eight Palestinians and wounded 20 others. The funeral was for a Palestinian killed in an Israeli strike earlier that morning.
