India spends $130-140 billion a year on crude oil imports, EVs were supposed to fix that

But battery demand is heading toward 272 GWh by FY30, Without local cell factories, that means a $23 billion annual import bill, mostly to China. Government put ₹18,100 crore behind PLI for 50 GWh of cell manufacturing.

4 years in, only 1.4 GWh is running, all from Ola Electric, Zero payouts made. Scheme demanded value addition levels no company could meet because lithium and cathode processing do not exist in India yet

IEEFA found India could reach 90% localization in EV motors, chargers, and power electronics by 2030. 🎉😉

Sounds like self-sufficiency, It is not - Localization means final assembly happens in India. Value creation means expensive subcomponents inside are also made here.

Motor assembled locally still uses IGBT chips, semiconductors that manage power flow, imported from China and Taiwan. Same motor needs rare earth magnets, 90% from China. India chip import dependency sits at 88% from China. Assembling 90% locally while keeping less than half the value is not real manufacturing.

When China restricted rare earth exports in April 2025, India magnet stockpiles lasted only two to three weeks. Few companies chose to skip the problem entirely.

A very productive Sunday morning 💚

#Vetaltekdi ecological restoration project - the first and only plantation day was this Sunday

This must be one of the country's first ecological restoration projects involving the removal of Gliricidia monoculture plantation and attempting to bring back a lost native ecosystem.

It isn't a mere plantation project, but an attempt to slowly restore the floral and avifaunal biodiversity of a dry deciduous, thorny scrub forest, which had disappeared after mass Gliricidia monoculture plantation in the 1990s.

The focus is on creating habitats and not on just planting trees, on bringing back insects, especially pollinators, that used to thrive on the tekdi in the past, to attract migratory birds that need grasslands and scrub forests, not dense canopy trees, to keep away exotic, invasive plant species that have decimated our native biodiversity

We hope to document everything that lives and grows here over the next decade or so 🐛🦋🐜🦉🕷️🐝🐞🌳🐦‍⬛🌿🍃🍂🌿

An Open Letter to the Jantar Mantar protestors:

My dear young friends,

I address you today not as a politician or an MP, but as someone deeply troubled by what is happening to your generation of young Indians.

This is personal for me. I was born to a middle-class family: my father was a salaried newspaper employee, my mother a homemaker, with three children to educate on one income. For a family like ours, merit was not a slogan. Scholarships, fair examinations, honest results — these were the only way one salary could carry three children's dreams.

I went to school in Mumbai and Kolkata, to college here in Delhi, topped the University and earned admission into IIM — and chose instead to follow my passion for international affairs, in America, on a scholarship. Nothing was inherited; everything was earned by hard work and yes, Exams.

So I know that a fair, merit-based system is the only ladder for young people from lower and middle-income families to climb up. When that ladder is broken — papers leaked, examinations cancelled, trust destroyed — the children of the rich and powerful do not suffer. They have other ladders. It is your dreams, and your families' sacrifices (and tragically, in some homes, young lives themselves) that are betrayed.

To the young people gathered at Jantar Mantar, and those raising your voices peacefully across India: this country hears you. Your anger is not indiscipline — it is the anguish of a generation that did everything right and was still betrayed . You are not alone.

And to the millions of young Indians watching quietly: your generation is not a problem to be managed. You are the answer to India's future. Do not lose hope. This ladder will be rebuilt — by you, and by every Indian who stands with you.

To Shri Sonam Wangchuk-ji, my heartfelt appeal: please end your fast. You have awakened the conscience of the nation; that is what a fast is meant to do. India needs your voice for the long road ahead.

With Parliament in session again from Monday, we will have an opportunity to raise the students’ issues in the highest forum of our democracy. That’s where the problem should be addressed, not by fasting unto death. Please heed my plea.

And finally, to the Government: I respectfully urge you to reach out and engage in the dialogue our democracy owes its young citizens. That is not weakness; that is statesmanship.

Starbucks spends $400 million a year on software. Yesterday they announced they're moving off IBM and Microsoft to build their own custom systems in-house.

IBM dropped 3% and Salesforce dropped 4% on the news.

And honestly this is, unequivocally, the biggest signal I've seen since OpenAI and Anthropic launched their consulting arms back in Q1. The largest companies in the world are done paying for software that half fits how they work.

We saw this coming about a year ago. Moved everything we build off Airtable and low-code tools and went fully custom. Already paying off, and it's only going to compound from here.

This is the opportunity right now.

You get all of a company's data into one system. You build out a single operating system for the entire business. You cut out bad, redundant processes. Then you layer AI on top of it, under the correct processes.

That's the core of AI consulting. Helping companies actually operate better.

There are a lot of fly-by-night offerings circulating right now when it comes to Ai Services.

For example, 'second brains'.

Throwing scattered data into a second brain while the processes underneath stay broken does nothing. The companies who will absolutely destroy their competition over the next 5 years are rebuilding how they work from the ground up.

Starbucks is showing you what other companies will be doing over the next several years.

Your job is to position yourself to facilitate that process for as many companies as you can.
