C’est un peu le dilemme que je me pose avec Server Explorer.

Pour reposer les bases : Server Explorer est un logiciel de gestion de serveur pensé pour les selfhosters/solopreneur/devops.
Aujourd’hui sur desktop (Windows et Mac), il te permet déjà de gérer ton serveur, tes applications, et dans la V3 il y aura aussi un gros focus sur la sécurité.
Sur le papier, la version desktop suffit.
Mais en creusant, je me rends compte qu’une version mobile aurait de vrais avantages :

redémarrer un container depuis ton smartphone,
diagnostiquer pourquoi un service est down avec les logs + l’IA au même endroit,

bref, un côté James Bond / Tom Cruise 😂

Et en prime, une app mobile peut aussi élargir l’audience.

Le problème ?
Server Explorer est payant sur desktop (Apple et Windows).
Si je sors une version mobile avec les mêmes fonctionnalités, elle devra être payante aussi.
👉 Résultat : les utilisateurs paieraient deux fois.

Alors je m’interroge sur la bonne stratégie.
Je sais, je n’ai même pas encore sorti la V3 que je pense déjà à l’étape suivante… mais je préfère anticiper.

Des idées de moves pour moi 🥹?

I was browsing Sentry and I saw that they had a widget allowing the user to send a bug report.

Pretty crazy. I’m trying to set it up for Server Explorer.

For now, I’m thinking of displaying it in modal, but I’m still thinking about the best way not to make it bulky.

Maybe display it only in case of unmanaged error or crash.

Or, if the widget can be placed anywhere, create a dedicated button: the user clicks as soon as he notices a bug and can send his report.

In short, I will see and I will keep you informed.

I paused the prospecting for Server Explorer.

Because the prospecting message I used no longer seems relevant to me. Two reasons for this:

- A major update is underway: it fixes bugs, significantly improves the user experience and adds important new features. It would be a shame to bring in users now, when the current version is no longer representative of the real potential of the app.

- The current message is too « sales » oriented and not enough focused on the interlocutor. It works a little, but I am convinced that by adopting a more personalized and value-based approach, the results will be much better.

So I’m taking a break for:

- Contact those who responded positively

- Identify those who were not interested

- Rethink the process and the message with more finesse

And with all the marketing skills I learn and thanks to xProspector .com, my prospecting tool on X, I intend to explore new channels to strengthen the acquisition of Server Explorer.

As a freelance dev and indie maker, I need a sharp setup to code, stay up to date, reach out to new clients, and stay inspired.
